Howdy! I'm interested in what you thought of Duck 2. I know she mentioned that her character was biphobic on purpose, but do you think it wasn't handled well or wasn't used in a way that showed that the character was obviously wrong for that? I'm sure I'll read it soon, but I was interested to hear what you thought.
backstory for everyone else: duck and duck 2 are books (graphic novels i guess?) by tana ford, who was on the queer comics panel at boston comic con and who i fell in love with instantly while watching her talk.
it was definitely not handled well. every single character was a lesbian except for this one villainized bi woman, and pretty much every single one of the lesbians said biphobic shit and nobody called them out. it made me sad because i really wanted to like the book and otherwise it was good but that left such a bad taste in my mouth. i'm 100% going to take her up on her offer to contact her though--like "hey i think you're incredible but you did a shitty thing can we talk about this." because of the way she spoke about biphobia at the panel, i know that she recognizes that the attitudes she portrays are shitty, and i have hope that if it's pointed out to her she'll understand. it just didn't seem like the biphobia was acknowledged by the narrative at all.
