       “of course it matters.  you’re here, aren’t you.”  something like concern crosses their features, stays for a lot longer than a fraction of a second.  “if you need to talk, you—know i’m here.  for you.  for the both of you, at least.”  fingers press at the back of their neck, down into the tense muscle.  man, being open might actually kill them one of these days.

“um, you wanna come in.  i’m making coffee.  i know it’s after noon, but—fuck it, right.  hospitality doesn’t have visiting hours.”

       “—ah, that’s wrong.  you can’t—.”  words are hard, okay?  tegan (sometimes) forgets what to say and that’s absolutely okay of them.  however, that doesn’t work if your two friends have a radio show—you know, a job that requires people to talk.  hm, you live and you learn.  “i think it should be the other way around.  you could try that, but i don’t think it’d work.”

       LONG FINGERS PICK up a slice of dried mango, flick it right at the other.  it’s a lot larger than any other snack in the box, but, of course, tegan’s very into the whole ‘go big or go home’ mindset.  “dude, get better snacks.  just because these are ‘healthy snacks’ doesn’t mean you have to go straight for dried fruit. ”

Their face ( unmarred by serious marks for six months, thank you Longshire ) is blooming with part-embarrassment, part-exasperation. “I know that. I know it’s eventual,” they huff, further wound-up by the slowness of words and clarification. “But I’m sure there’s-- someone, or thing, coming after us.” Because they pissed it -- them? it? eh! -- off, somehow. Some ghost or creature or person. “It smashed my window in.”
