I wrote a song with a rap in it today...
So today my Dad and I had a huge argument. Over something really silly. But it was really about something else. After he stormed off and drove to London (to pick up my brother) I went upstairs and struggled to deal with it for a long while. Then, just to kill the time and to distract my mind, I started messing around on the piano. I ended up writing a song, a song with a rap no less! I’m really proud of it. If you can’t tell the song is basically from the perspective of my Dad. I don’t think that the issue I talk about in it is one I have, but instead one he has. The resolution at the end is where I hope he gets to eventually - and if he lets me, I’ll support him to get there.
Anyway, I haven’t got my webcam with me so I can’t actually post the audio but here are the lyrics:
Memory - by Michael Lewis
Verse 1
Sometimes I feel like my life is a memory Everything happened in the past But the trouble with that way of thinking Is I don’t treat today like its my last
Chorus
I want to remember the future ahead of me I don’t want to die A sad old man with nothing to hope for So I hear this song and cry
Rap
I sometimes feel like my life Is just an album though I try To look to the future not just to the past I stop living today like today is my last See that is the problem with fucking nostalgia You can only reminisce about what is behind you But what is the present if not future’s past I want to live today like today is my last
There was pain in the past And there was shame in the past See Pain can become a smile and you see shame fades after a while And after years of thirst a man would drink brine And after years of pain spilled blood becomes wine So I can’t look to the future, only the past And I’ve stopped living today like today is my last.
Chorus
I want to remember the future ahead of me I don’t want to die A sad old man with nothing to hope for So I hear this song and cry
Verse 2
From now on I’ll appreciate the beauty Of uncertain paths Because my old way of thinking Tarnished other people’s pasts
Chorus
I want to remember the future ahead of me I don’t want to die A sad old man with nothing to hope for So I hear this song and try
