A small gift for @thatkidryder because they are the best ever.Â
Pairing: Ardant/Idhren (with mentioned Ardant/Idhren/Dorian)
Summary: The boys enjoy a rare day off Featuring our sons being a couple of adorable saps and a lot of gay elf cuddling.
Ardant of course belongs to @thatkidryder, Idhren belongs to me.
If there was one thing Idhren missed about Tevinter it was the weather. Even at the height of summer Skyhold, situated as it was in the mountain peaks, never reached a temperature he would consider more than mild. And the winter here in the Ferelden mountains had absolutely no redeeming qualities. Save, perhaps, that the cold weather was a good excuse to curl up in bed with one or both of his lovers to warm up.
Outside the windows of the Inquisitor’s quarters it was snowing, slowly covering the balconies and the castle grounds in a thick layer of sparkling pure white to match the surrounding mountaintops. The unexpected storm had delayed their latest excursion and left the Inquisitor with a long-needed and relished day off.
Dorian had absconded to the library hours ago to continue his latest research, but Idhren had no intention of getting out of bed until well after noon. He had managed to convince Ardant to keep him company, however, and explore some more creative ways to stay warm.
Loose-limbed and sated, he lay curled around and half atop Ardant. Nose pressed into the cook of his neck, Idhren breathed in the scent of him. The world outside their tangle of limbs faded away as he dozed off. Aware of nothing save the smell of musk and leather, the press of skin against skin, the slow rise and fall of Ardant’s chest beneath his own. Across the room a fire crackled in the grate, the wind rushed against the side of the tower, occasionally rattling the windows, but burrowed beneath the blankets everything was warm. Comfortable. Safe.
The low rumbling started quietly at first, barely noticeable. It continued steadily, a low hum that eventually broke through Idhren’s consciousness and vibrated through his chest. He raised his head slowly off Ardant’s shoulder. The other elf lay with his eyes closed, expression relaxed, but he wasn’t quite asleep, Idhren thought. An arm tightened fractionally around Idhren’s shoulder as he shifted – definitely not asleep, then.
And the rumbling continued, low and steady. Idhren couldn’t contain a small smile. “Are you purring?”
The sound stopped immediately. Ardant’s eyes opened and looked down to meet Idhren’s. “What?” His cheeks were pink. “No.”
Idhren’s smile turned to a smirk. “You were,” he teased. “You absolutely were.”
“I wasn’t,” Ardant protested, cheeks going brighter. “Maybe you were purring.”
“No, you were, I heard you,” Idhren laughed. He shifted, a leg on either side of Ardant’s hips. “Purring like a fucking housecat.” Ardant spluttered, red all the way up his ears now, but not able to come up with any sort of comeback. And that reaction only edged Idhren on. “That’s absolutely precious. I wish Dorian were here right now to see what a damn sap you are.”
“Dorian doesn’t need to know anything about this!” Ardant said desperately.
“I am not!” Ardant protested once more. “Or… or it’s your fault if I am!”
A slight tightness in his voice on that last word, his brows pinched together a fraction too close. Idhren had teased too much again, pushed too far. Damn it all. When would he learn to keep his big mouth shut? And how did he get this morning – afternoon? – back on track? “I should hope, so,” Idhren said. He leaned up and pressed a kiss to Ardant’s red cheek, his jaw, his lips. And when he pulled away that pinch in Ardant’s brow was gone. Then he folded his hands across Ardant’s chest and laid his chin atop them, letting almost the full weight of his body rest on the other elf. “I certainly wouldn’t accept you purring for anyone but me or Dorian.”
“You… What?” Ardant stared down at the smaller body laying across him, pinning him down.
“You should be happiest with us, after all,” Idhren elaborated, trying to choose his words carefully. “We’re certainly happiest with you.” Then he swallowed back his own embarrassment and said, “And I’m glad you can feel that comfortable around me.” He said that last bit with his eyes closed, because it was easier if he didn’t have to face his feelings head on. So he did not see the smile that tugged at Ardant’s lips even as his cheeks still burned red, but he could almost feel the curve of his mouth when a kiss was pressed to the top of his head. Strong arms wrapped around his shoulders as Idhren relaxed once more, squeezing briefly, securely.
They would have to get up eventually and face the day. Eat something and take a bath. But maybe they could sleep for one more hour.

thatkidryder replied to your post “what’s it like to have a functional relationship with your family...”
i didn't talk to my family much while i was living at college unless i needed help with something i couldn't figure out on my own. talked to friends waaaaay more
ok but if i didn’t have to eat dinner with my parents “as a family” i would literally go weeks without speaking to them despite living in the same house because more often than not that’s the extent of our interaction: eating dinner while watching tv.

A surprisingly rare occurrence, considering he actually is quite powerful. Killing a dragon will certainly do the trick, but what resonates with him even more are times he has political or social power. Like passing judgement on the Inquisition’s captured enemies. Specifically, judging Magister Erimond, who was someone Idhren knew from his past in Tevinter. Having authority over someone who used to belittle him, who used to have both political and social power over him, was very empowering for Idhren.
❞ - something they’d never say
Idhren’s not afraid to speak his mind, even if it offends someone, so the only stuff he would never say are things that are patently untrue. Like “I love politics” and “The Circles did nothing wrong”.
