@moonbcrne , willow ; "you’re an asshole, you know that?"
nails dig crescent moons into his palms as she speaks. he had already been on edge from the moment he caught sight of her walking closer and closer to his vicinity. sunny wanted nothing more than for floor to swallow him whole in that moment. he had done everything he could to avoid any encounter with her. it had gotten to the point where he would even turn down any opportunity hang out with carter in fear that she would be there — or worse case scenario — if she was there with cade. he knew he wouldn't be able to stomach the sight, so he isolated himself. either wallowing in self-pity or finding ways to numb the pain.
❝ yeah, i’ve been told. ❞ the words come out sharper than he intends, a flimsy shield of sarcasm in attempt to mask the crack in his voice. he exhales shakily, eyes fixed somewhere over her shoulder, too afraid that if he looks at her he’ll see pity. ❝ guess it’s better than being a fucking idiot, right? ’cause that’s what i’d have to be to stick around and watch him pick you. ❞
his voice wavers on the last word, venom mixing with something softer, something raw and vulnerable. he drags a hand down his face, trying to will away the exhaustion that has settled deep into his bones. ❝ i didn’t ask for any of this shit. you think i wanted to fall for someone who was never really mine? ❞ he finally meets her gaze. eyes red-rimmed and burning as he lets out a bitter laugh. ❝ so yeah. i’m an asshole. but at least i knew when to walk away before it killed me. can you say the same? ❞
Rian Johnson said that writing Kylo Ren was the highlight of The Last Jedi. Would you agree?
CT: I love writing for this guy. Partly because I feel like his [inner] conflict is a relatable thing. I find that most bullies are just sad, really. They’re trying to fill a whole inside them. And I feel like that’s Kylo Ren’s thing. His temper tantrums and his inability to control himself, his joining the Knights of Ren and leading them - clearly this guy is looking for some meaning and connection. And yes he’s the bad guy and he’s doing evil things but he's the son of two heroes. He’s the nightmare of that couple. Clearly his having done what he did to his father is something that doesn't go away. And I think ‘kill the past,’ that mantra he had in VIII is him not wanting to look back. It's too painful. That's part of what we explore in this movie.
The early films are quite binary in their depiction of light and dark sides, where this trilogy is more ambiguous. Is that something you embraced?
CT: Yes because I think Kylo Ren is one of the most complex characters, if not the most complex, that’s ever appeared in the Star Wars universe. With Vader, it was very hard to see that there was a war going on inside him between the light and dark ‘til quite late in Return of the Jedi. I think in the case of Kylo Ren, right from the start of Episode VII, J.J. was suggesting that Ren was very uneasy about his relationship with the light and dark side. In his conversation with his father in Episode VII, he quite bluntly stated that he was being torn apart. In Kylo Ren alone you have sort of a complex depiction of the war that goes on inside all of us. We're not all good then suddenly we're bad. And we're not all bad then suddenly all good. And I hope Episode IX picks that up in interesting ways. Rey has been tempted by the dark side in many different ways, and Ren has been tempted by the light.

This is the conclusion of a three-part series on the Jan. 6, 1969, sessions for “Two of Us.” If you haven’t already, please enjoy Part I and Part II! George: OK, I don’t min…
“George’s statement to Paul during the day’s rehearsal of “Two of Us” essentially became the catchphrase for the entire sessions. It’s George’s frustrations and Paul’s bossiness — and John’s disinterest, as he’s conspicuous by his absence — all in one. And because it was in the film, and the highlight of an extensive set of dialogue in it, it’s the moment we point to. At least, it’s the moment I point to.
“Whatever it is that will please you, I’ll do it” caps a sequence that lasted much longer than two or so minutes depicted in the film.
And when all was said and done, it was Paul needling George over a six-month old suggested guitar part that prompted him to say it (and was the subject of much of the last post).
Paul: This one, it’s like, “Should we play guitar through ‘Hey Jude’? No, I don’t think we should.”
I get what Paul wants to do here, prove his point that a more spartan approach is ideal — especially here while they’re in the rehearsal stage. And he’s made that clear. But instead he finds a way to pick at a scab.
George, remember how you were wrong about “Hey Jude”? You’re wrong, just like that, today.
And because of George’s state during the sessions — his originals were blandly tolerated at best or outright dismissed at worst — the scab tears right open.
George: OK, I don’t mind. I’ll play, you know, whatever you want me to play. Or I won’t play at all, if you don’t want me to play. Whatever it is that will please you, I’ll do it. But I don’t think you really know what that one is.
Missing from the film is that last line, which really gives it an extra bite. Passive-aggressive right into aggressive.”
Here you all go.
@showfallmediaarchivist I found it. It's... yeah.
