do people, in your muse’s opinion, ever really change? do they believe themselves to be capable of changing?

yeas absolutely. there's a lot going on here let me see.

so fiyero went from being a prince that got catered to every single day. he didn't get dressed by himself, he didn't pick the gowns he was wearing, he didn't cook, he didn't pick the food he was eating, you can apply that to pretty much anything he did.

and when he left the island after his death, he had absolutely nothinggg. broke, no place to stay, no clothes, no food. just his instruments, his rapier, and what he was wearing.

and that's still a change. fiyero spent a hundred years as mallenor not leaving the island. he could have. he had friends at the harbor, he could have snuck onto a ship and left. but he didn't. there's a million reasons you could count for it: because where he was was familiar to him, and he loved his mother. after the death of his supposed father, he didn't want to leave her. people would have come after him. and of course, he was scared to leave.

i don't know if i'd count his personality as changing. i think it's more that his personality blossomed, once he left dovesong. but the whole thing has cemented a firm belief in him that if you want to change, you can change.

an inability to change can still exist. if you deny yourself of change, it won't happen. it's an active choice. change or don't. leave or stay.

this also ties into his belief into lathander! the morninglord stands for new beginnings, hope, the promise and potential of a new day. every single day, you can change. every single day, you can reinvent yourself.
