Currently thinking about what Helga thought about Thaddeus Thatch’s death. Thaddeus died after being ridiculed by his academic peers and never seeing his life’s work come to fruition. Helga must have known at least a little about this. She and Rourke worked with him well enough during the mission to retrieve the Shepherd’s Journal, and in the comic depicting those events she appears reasonably amused by his antics (in a way that she seems to mirror with Milo in Atlantis: The Lost Empire). Both Thaddeus and Preston Whitmore obviously offered an opportunity for great wealth, but it’s still interesting to ponder whether there was any degree of sentimentality beyond her employment under them. We know that her most significant attachment outside of her family was Lyle Rourke, but it’s a difficult to say something similar about virtually anyone else. I think it’s possible that Helga viewed every other attachment in her life largely as a means to an end. She might have a degree of fondness for people like Thaddeus, but ultimately if they are not useful to her, or worse—if they go against her, her relationship with them can be easily severed. Ultimately I see Helga exhibiting some emotion over Thaddeus and potentially Mr. Whitmore’s deaths, but a significant part of this would be attached to their ability to make her rich.

“A Genuine Arrowhead”
Off to the right of Milo’s “desk” in the basement of the Smithsonian, we can see a framed arrowhead, mounted on a lanyard; it’s beside Thaddeus’s hat and a photograph of Milo and his grandpa. I like to think it’s the same piece of compressed shale and zinc pyrite that he and his grandfather found on that hike.
Ok but I can't be the only one who REALLY wants to see how the Iceland expedition would go; specifically, of course, in relation to our beloved specialists!
Like, they've presumably never met, and even at the time Atlantis takes place, they can have trouble getting along. What do you think it was like when they'd all first met, with nobody sure of how to handle each others' personalities and habits?
Did they deal with perils like they did on the Atlantis expedition? How did they handle them? When did they first open up to each other about their histories, and how did Audrey (who wasn't even on the Iceland trip!!) end up knowing Mole's deal before Sweet?
All I can imagine is like
Thaddeus trying to moderate an argument that's in-and-out of 4 different languages in the middle of a massive snowstorm because this is Atlantis' version of Iceland:
shipping has already started, so i can finally share the full piece i made for the Atlantis Zine organized by @alien-zines
working on this zine has been a total joy and i'm really glad i got to participate!
