"Don't go up to the surface, Haru-chan,"
Thinking about his late grandmother's words, Haru snorted to himself. As if he would want to. Living under the water was like a dream, why would he ever want to leave it? He never got tired of being in the water; it was relaxing.
"Haru, come to the surface with me next time I go!"
That had been something Rin had said just last week. He had tried to get Makoto to go with him as well, but Makoto was too afraid of the surface to even want to see it. Haruka was sure he had convinced Nagisa to go with him, because Nagisa had been nothing but excitement and bubbles for two days - Rin's latest excursion to the surface. Stupid shark. He was going to get caught by a human some day, and it would definitely be up to Haru, Makoto and Nagisa to save him.
"Haru-chaaaan, the surface is so pretty! You would love it! Please come with us next time!"
The surface.... why would he ever want to go... But glancing up, Haru could see the reflection of the... he's sure that was the sun, it was so bright. But there had been nights where the moon was unimaginably bright he had been unable to fall asleep. It didn't matter; he could see the brightness of the surface world breaking through the shallower waves, the light dissipating the further it went down.
Nagisa's words echoing in his mind, Haru swam towards the surface, pale blue tail propelling him to the brighter edges of the water. Just a look wouldn't hurt, right? There would definitely be no humans around.
