Samuel Slater. Son of a yeoman farmer was born in Derbyshire, England on June 9, 1768. He became involved in the textile industry at the age of 14 when he was apprenticed to a mill operated the first set of cotton mills in England. Samuel Slater today is known as the Father of the Textile Industry for his business savviness and his charismatic persona to push the industry to a global perspective.
