quick note on drawing asian features:
im glad ppl are making more of an effort to draw japanese characters with actual japanese features (as opposed to drawing everyone with white features) but a lot of recognizably drawn-japanese art i see has very reserved, to neutral expressions. please remember asian people, too, make facial expressions!
asian eyes, mouths, eyebrows and noses are expressive too. our faces will still crinkle and wrinkle and flush when we laugh. it may sound really obvious put like this, but i feel like many people don’t draw japanese & other e. asian characters making “ugly” expressions because we are thought of as unemotional, or because people only think of us as looking “pretty” & reserved.
(on that note, please also remember there’s diversity in japanese faces alone, not to get started on differences between the many e. asian ethnicities. not everyone is pale with small, delicate features!)
if you need references, go look at japanese vines or watch some cinema of choice (ex: i can rec the aa live action movie, or watch some korean dramas, chinese comedies, etc depending on what ethnicity you are trying to draw. NOT anime though), and study the movements, expression, differences in facial structure between different people. trace a few stills. it’ll be hilarious & educative i promise
