FMP PROGRESS: TEXT
After finishing my poem, I had decided to test out the different types of methods to use to incorporate the text into the quilt. Originally, I thought I would embroider a hand-writing type font with the poem, but I found that it came out looking poorly, especially given the amount of time it takes. I then tried gouache paint on top of the fabric, but the letters were hard to read and looked messy. I tried making a stencil from paper trying to cut out the letters and then I would paint over them onto the fabric. After this, I talked to my tutor and my classmate and they suggested felt was the route to go, seeing as the stencil would take a long time and that it wouldn’t keep up with my theme of fabric and texture. So I decided to use felt, and to use a block-type font. I went through many different tests to get to my final choice. I still haven’t glued the letters on, but I found that this method was the most time-efficient and looked the best for my project. This has taught me to use my tutors and classmates as an outsider’s opinion on my work, and to utilise them. This has definitely improved my project and has given me more time to work on other parts of my project.
