I spent a long time thinking about how I could make a holographic texture myself, but everything turned out to be so simple that I was like... Okay? ๐
But I might improve it

Exploring Texture
What makes a good photograph of texture and why?
A good photograph of texture should include a lot of detail, as otherwise we wouldn't be able to see what the texture is properly. Taking the shot close up, with a shallow depth of fieldย is also a good way of capturing textures, as the viewer then has to look closer to work out what the subject was. This makes the image more interesting and imaginative.
In response to my 3 texture images:
What drew you to the subject? & What do you like about your photo?
Image 1: I liked the bright turquoise colour initially, but then the texture of it peeling away due to weathering revealed the original stone building behind. This gives the image depth with the multiple layers showing through, and adds darker tones. I particularly like how the lower half of the image is in focus, with above it being slightly blurred. This makes the dirty, peeling paint the main focus.
Image 2: I spotted a doorway that has chunks of the now grey paint missing from it, with the previous colours just showing through on the edges. I like how the wood is grainy and the texture appears rough in contrast with the smoother paint. I like the very shallow depth of field, as it allows the detail to be really captured. The blurriness of the background adds to this.
Image 3: I was drawn to this subject as the lower part of the building was painted like this, in a graffiti style. The colours are bright and the patterns created are interesting. The texture adds more detail, giving the paint a 3D look. I like how the image is taken from a direct angle, showing how the texture of the building stands out and distorts the appearance of the paint slightly.
What visual aspects of texture does your image focus on?
Image 1: This image focuses mainly on colour and depth of field. The bright turquoise colour is eye-catching and bold, drawing the viewer in. The shallow depth of field allows the peeling texture to be seen in great detail in contrast to the blurred part above.
Image 2: This focuses on depth of field, colour and variation. This is because the foreground is in focus, presenting the textures well. Colour is also a key aspect, as we can see 3 main ones in this image: brown wood, red paint and grey paint. This links with the variation in the photograph, as we can see both 2 different textures (rough/grainy&smooth).
Image 3: This image focuses mainly on colour and shapes. The colours used are bright and eye-catching, with the shapes created using paint linking with them. The colours also contrast each other, adding variation.
Why did we create a textures library/ how could you use it?
We all went out and took various images of texture we found within areas around college. After this, we uploaded our favourite 3 to Google Drive for the entire class to access. This will mean that we can all share our images, and make use of them when creating edits. Having a mixture means a lot of techniques and subjects have been used- adding variation to everyone's work.
