The Story of My Musical Start!
I don’t know how many of you know this, but I only picked up a guitar and learned to sing about 6 1/2 years ago! I was graduating my associates degree in psychology and my grandparents asked what I wanted for a present... My grandfather had just been diagnosed with Mesothelioma, and built and restored guitars. Colt (at that time my boyfriend) had been playing for over 30 years, and I thought it would be a good hobby for us to do together! In all reality, I only ever expected to learn a song or two and I’d show off my skills at Billy’s house (#BillyHighSmith, #LeadGuitar), but that was as far as I had dreamed...
Within two years, I was stage ready, and got enough of a fire to re-light Colt’s burning love for music! So, we started out as Colt’s old band’s name; Colt Buckelew and The Crossroads. We had the honor of opening for so many legends, and people we admire like #EarlThomasConley, #BriBagwell, #KevinFowler, #JasonBoland, and many more! But in year 3, we decided it was easier on everyone to have a strong name that would stick in everyone’s mind! We are Texas native and are always Crossing Texas, so it was a pretty easy name to come up with! Since then, things have been a roller coaster.
In 2016, I was diagnosed with stage 0 DCIS Breast Cancer. After a lumpectomy and a few months of radiation, I rang the bell to my cancer, closing that chapter in my life!
We had been working on our full length album up until 2016. The cancer treatments took all the money we had saved, and we were starting again almost from scratch...
In August of 2017, life dealt us a natural disaster; #HurricaneHarvey. We lived in Rockport until then. We had to figure out what to do and FAST! We got an RV and started traveling, staying mainly in the hill country area, but still traveling all over Texas! In 2018, we are already starting out with announcements that include opening for well known #CountryArtist (Including #DougStone) and the announcement of our upcoming EP release (We will be announcing that soon, so if you follow us here, you are one of the first to know!!)
I would have never imagined my life would be where it is today 10 or even 5 years ago! But music has become everything in life to me... From the time I wake up, till I go to bed, I look for ways to promote us, find new shows and venues for us to play, meet new connections in the industry, and everything else in between! If it has to with #SocialMedia then I am probably the one controlling that page!
Regardless, I wouldn’t give my life up for all the money in the world. It’s my passion. It’s what I feel is important in my life... I love everything about my career! I even take the bad with the good since the good is so much more than the bad...
