“Nanna hurry uuuup!” Tevryn tugged on his grandmother's hand urging her towards the door. “Hurry up! Hurry up! I wanna go outside!” He let go of her hand to press his face against the window to watch the snow fall down. The first snow of winter and he wasn't outside yet!

“I'm going as fast as I can, Little Sunbeam. I'm old it takes me a while to get my shoes on.” Amondria said to her excited young grandson. “You don't even have your hat and gloves on yet. You're not even ready to go outside.” She teased playfully.

Tevryn crossed his arms. “I am a fire mage, Nanna. Just like Ann'da and I don't get cold.” Even saying this he knew he wouldn't be going anywhere near the snow without his hat and gloves.

“The cutest fire mage there is. Who would look even more cute in his hat and gloves.” Amondria said standing up to help Tevryn bundle up. “What are you going to do first when you get out in the snow? Snowman? Make snow angels?” Amondria asked. There would even be enough snow to make a hill to slide down if he wanted.

“Snowman!” Tevryn answered excitedly. “Will you help me make a snowman, please?”

“Of course sweatheart.” Amondria smiled at him. All she could see around all his warm clothes was a big pair a glowing white eyes and the ends of his messy black hair. “Okay. Get ready for the snoooow” She said in a sing-song voice as she opened the door letting in a blast of cold air.

Tevryn was outside and already running through the backyard before Amondria was even outside. He scooped up a handful of snow and tossed it into the air. “Nanna! Nanna! Look I'm a frost mage now!” He giggled then immediately set to work on his snowman.

“You're just the cutest mage ever.” She replied as she started to help him with the snowman. The first snowfall of the season was always the most exciting. The little ones couldn't wait to get outside and spend far too long playing in the cold. She earned a loud giggle when she used her Death Knight magic to swirl some of the snow in her hand before packing the snow into the middle of the snowman.

“Nanna this is going to be the best snowman ever. We'll have to show Poppy when we are done.”

“Oh yes, Poppy would love to see our snowman.” Amondria responded. Unfortunately Ardryn was a bit unwell to join them in the snow or he would be out here with them excitedly adding snow to the snowman and showing Tevryn how to catch snowflakes on his tongue.

Tevryn stepped back from the completed snowman after he added the button eyes and carrot nose that is Nanna had brought out. He was very happy their snowman had ears like his. Sin'dorei ones. Their snowman was half Sin'dorei half Kaldorei too. Just like him. “Nanna I'm cold can we show Poppy our snowman then go inside?” He asked.

“Of course Tevryn. Let's go get Poppy.” She took Tevryn's hand and let him back inside where Ardryn already had hot chocolate waiting on the table.

“So, do you know everyone's whole life before they live it now? Can see exactly how I'm going to die? Know what choices I'll make? Tell me Tev, what's my fate?” Javiean grinned and slapped his friend on the back.

Tevryn shook his head and playful shoved the other. “It doesn't work like that. I may be a dragonsworn now but I'm not a dragon. I can't look into the timeways perfectly. Even if I could you should never look into the timeway of someone you care about. You might see something you want to change and in trying to change it you often cause it to happen.” Tevryn fiddled with the sleeve of his mage's robes.

“So no chance of telling me my fate? Not even if I'll meet a cute guy?”Javiean asked, stretching his legs out on the grass and turning his bright white eyes to the sky. “Where's the fun in not knowing?”

Tevryn shook his head and crossed his legs. “Fate is a fickle thing. Fate is me happening to be in the same book club and us becoming friends. Fate is… fate is my Min'da happening to be starting out on her adventuring life at the same time Dada arrived from Gilneas. Fate is Dada's friend deciding to stay in Darnassus so Dada got paired with Min'da. Fate is Min'da getting attacked by that Worgen in Duskwood setting off the chain of events leading to Dada, Ann'da, and Min'da all meeting.” He took a deep breath and looked to see if his friends as listening. Javiean was looking at Tevryn waiting for him to continue.

“Fate is Ann'da's family deciding to visit a friend before traveling, putting them in Silvermoon when it was attacked.” Fate was Grandpa dying and Grammy getting raised as a Death Knight. 

“You think about this sort of stuff a lot, don't you? Is it because of the dragon stuff?” Javiean asked.

Tevryn nodded. “It's a lot easier to handle everything in the world when we accept it's fate and the sands of time. That it's out of our control.” “So tell me, wise dragonsworn. How can we change our fate?”

“By taking a step in a direction we want. Actively trying. Like how I actively tried to become a dragonsworn and it happened.” Tevryn answered.

“Knowing a dragon your whole life didn't hurt though” Javiean teased playfully, sitting up to fully face Tevryn.

Tevryn grinned. “Maybe so. But I still had to try and had to prove myself.”

Tevryn pushed his hand through his messy black hair. He'd been studying for this test for months now. If he passed he would be accepted into the Dalaran Academy of Magical Study and Advancement. He wanted so badly to study there before setting out to become a dragonsworn. It would be good to have a better grasp and control over his own magic and a more advanced understanding of magic in general before he became a dragonsworn and possibly gained magical abilities related to that.

Of course, he had been studying magic all his life. He felt he had a good understanding but the Dalaran Academy could teach him even more. He could even further his enchanting there.

He pushed his chair back and stood from his desk. He needed to go for a walk. He'd been going over the test points for hours and trying to enchant something new to show his work. He had his eye enchantment to show, of course but that felt like one to avoid sharing. It could make things awkward.

A nice walk in the cool night air would help. Calm his nerves. Being under the moonlight could do that. He’d get his thoughts in order then get back to studying. He knew he should just get some sleep. The test was tomorrow and he had three other enchantments prepared he could show. Reluctantly he fell into bed and hoped to a few hours at least. --- Tevryn cursed in every language he knew as he ran through Dalaran. He was going to be late. Never stay up studying late, he knew better. You stay up late you sleep in and are late to a test that is a huge part of your future. He pushed the large door open into the testing room and breathlessly greeting his proctors. “Tevryn R. A. Bloodshadow?” One asked, an older Sin’dorei man. Tevryn nodded, still trying to catch his breath. “Yes, Sir.” A second proctor spoke. This one was a Human woman who had been the one to give him his interview when he applied flipped through a file then handed a piece of parchment to both of the others. “Your specialization?” The third asked. Tevryn was beyond surprised to realized although he appeared human there was no doubt of a Kaldorei parent. The same way with him, the eyes gave it away. It was odd to see the facial tattoos on her but he was happy to see her able to have them. His little cousin was already fighting to get hers when she turned of age. “Fire, Ma’am.” His voice definitely cracked there. No covering that. Fel. “Okay, we will give you a list of tasks and you will perform the spell as directed. No mana potions will be provided.” Tevryn swallowed nervously and nodded. This was it.

A couple hours later Tevryn slowly made his way home. The lump in his throat wouldn't go away and all he could hear was the proctors telling him he failed and he could test again next year.

He failed.

He kept thinking over everything and couldn't pinpoint what made him fail. He didn't mess anything up tremendously. He hadn't been able to hold his ice block for as long as he should but he'd been close.

Tevryn crawled under his blankets and curled up as tears started to fall. He'd never failed anything like this before. Would he pass next year? What had caused him to fail? Had he not studied enough? Did he study too much and burn himself out?

His stomach hurt from worrying over it. What if he could never be a dragonsworn now? No dragon would want a Mage that couldn't pass a test. Not even his Auntdormi. Would be be upset with him? Or did she know it would happen? See it in the timeways?
