Teufelsberg is an artificial hill in Berlin, created by heaping the rubble from bombed remains of the city on top of a half-built Nazi war college. Originally the intention was for it become a winter sports venue, but instead British and US American occupiers decided to build a listening post on top of the hill.

Of course, there was no need for a listening post there after the German reunification. Initially the site was to be redeveloped as a hotel, but when that fell through it became a street art venue.
