Now that I'm into the show flow I'm starting to work out here. Found this lovely sanctuary under the bleachers where there are plenty of bars to play on! #workout #pullup #bars #gym #circus #circusgirl #circuslife #ringmaster #tessemersonringmaster #workhardplayhard #strong #strength (at Global Winter Wonderland)
Hey guys. So I thought I would check in here on tumblr a post a new blog entry! I actually have been pretty good at keeping a personal journal, but something happened to me today…. I realization I suppose, that I felt like putting out there and sharing with all of you.
I recently have been reading a new book called: Zen and the Art of Happiness. I was having a bit of a rough morning and I remembered something this book is really focusing on and trying to teach and that is:
“Everything that happens to me is the best possible thing that can happen to me.”
As I said, I was having a bit of a rough morning. The show I am with had me staying at a hotel, but the hotel was about five miles or so away from the venue we are performing at. Also, the hotel didn’t have the setup to allow me to cook for myself. It was a lovely place! But a bit impractical seeing that I am staying here for almost three months and I do not have a car with me.
The company I am contracted through decided to move me into a trailer that would be on site. I was really happy about this because:
A) I would be on site and wouldn’t need to worry about others picking me up and driving me to the venue. I am fiercely independent, so relying on others is always a hard thing for me…. Albeit, something I need to work on ;)
B) I would be around all the acrobats I’m in the show with. Now, none of them speak really any English accept for one girl, but we make our way joking in the dressing room and communicating as best we can. They have been so wonderful me these past two weeks and I’m looking forward to getting to know them each, individually, through out this show.
C) I am able to cook for myself. I have a refrigerator, stove and burners!
For those of you who have followed my rather sporadic posts about my circus life know that I have lived in trailers on and off for the past three years. So to me, I am much more comfortable living in a trailer than a hotel room. (Also, I’m a huge American Horror Story fan and this season of “Hotel” doesn’t really make me want to stay in a hotel any longer than I have to!!!)
So this morning I moved into my own trailer. Awesome. Except I needed to get sheets and a blanket to put on the bed and some basics to cook with etc. Now, everyone on site who does have access to a vehicle is always super busy. There is a target a couple miles from the venue and I thought I’d just grab an uber cab over and try to get some essentials for my new digs. So off I went!
Here’s where things started to get rough. The entrance that we come into to get to our trailers is about a mile from where the actual trailers are…. No biggie, I’ve got two perfectly good legs so I decide to walk the mile to the entrance. On my walk, I start to panic slightly…. What if the security wont let me come back into the venue in an uber cab? How am I going to get all my things back to my trailer? I start to get a bit of a sinking feeling in my stomach and I decide to make a metal list of the bare essentials I’ll need to make it through tonight until I can figure out the rest. Basically my list consists of:
Pillow
Fitted sheet and flat sheet
Blanket/comforter
I think I’d be able to carry those things the mile from the gate to my trailer.
As I’m running through the negative scenarios that could go down with the security, the book I’m ready flashes through my mind…Wait a minute, have I learned nothing? This is just another experience in my life and this is the best possible thing that can happen to me right now. Why? Well, first off, I’ve survived a lot worse! Also, it’s a beautiful day and I’m getting out and seeing the beautiful leaves on the trees in Sac. Also, this is a skill I’m going to have to master if I’m to survive here until January. Also, I’ve been thinking of buying my own car when I get back to LA. I think all of this is pointing to me saving enough money to make that happen. The contract I have with the Circus of Light should allow me enough time and work to make this happen.
By the time I come up with a number of reasons why this situation is a good situation, I’ve reached the front gate! I approach the security guard with a smile and explain my situation. He’s more than happy to let me pass by when I come back with an uber cab full of bedding and groceries.
My uber driver explains to me that usually most of the drivers don’t have too hard of a time coming in if they explain then have a drop off or pick up. This is great news for me to know! Maybe I wont have to walk the mile it takes to get to the front gate, but if I do I’ll make the best of it.
And bonus, my uber driver was super stoked to drive through the grounds with me and get a sneak peak as to what was happening there. He’s really excited and wants to bring his family to see everything we have to offer!
So today, turned out to be pretty great. Realizing that whatever is happening in my life is the best possible thing that could happen to me at that moment is really a game changer and in just a few short moments I was able to change my “rough day” into a pretty freaking great day. I went on to perform three shows that went really well and I’m excited to do it again tomorrow!
I hope this can help some of you guys out there… If you’re curious, check out Zen and the Art of Happiness by Chris Prentiss and let me know what you think!
No biggie. Just a beautiful rainbow over a giant pink castle. 'Nother day at the office. #circus #circusgirl #circo #circuslife #ringmaster #tessemersonringmaster #rainbow #awesome
