this beautiful Chaetostomella represents everything i like about tephritids - heavily patterned wings and body, colorful eyes, generally cute proportions and the classic wide, flattened ovipositor, in this case to induce galls on thistles. she spent a long time leisurely sipping nectar from some fennel flowers, even as i grabbed the stem. what a perfect model
