oh my god tho.
He sees his face after midnight.
A random question that just occurred to me and which I probably won't remember the next time you're doing a relevant ask meme: Do you see any significant similarities between Minerva and Catelyn? I'd love to hear any and all thoughts on this. :3
Omg crying because I've never really thought about it but now that you mention it yes definitely???I think they're both very practical people, at their core - neither of them has time for showmanship or pomp. I think they're also both fairly structured people, in that they operate - and are comfortable operating - within the confines of their society (whether that is the Westeros hierarchy/patriarchy or the Wizarding World/Hogwarts). And it's funny, because I think Minerva is both more rigid in following those rules (whereas Catelyn does so herself but just kind of shrugs and is like 'whatever floats your boat' when confronted with people who fly into the face of convention, like Brienne and the Mormont ladies) and also more fully embraces the role of a rebel whereas I think for Catelyn, it was more inadvertent?? Like Catelyn wants desperately for sue for peace; getting her family back together is much more important to her than northern independence. Minerva kind of embodies both extremes at different times, rule-abider and revolutionary (joining the Order, leading the charge at Hogwarts), and Catelyn is more in the middle - she has dynastic aspirations (Sansa being queen) but is much more concerned with her family than shaping the world into a better place necessarily. And despite their outward practicality, they both make decisions ruled by emotion (though Catelyn does this much less often than fandom likes to blame her for). So there's definitely that heart at the center of both of them. I think Minerva is more of a classic intellectual though - not that Catelyn isn't smart, she IS, and she's very politically astute but while Minerva is canonically a Gryffindor-Ravenclaw hatstall, Catelyn in my mind is a Hufflepuff with a Gryffindor streak. I do wonder how much more similar they would have been if they had had similar familial situations; Minerva is much more of a loner which I think definitely shaped her. AND I LOVE THEM BOTH THAT IS THE BIGGEST SIMILARITY. ;___;

it's just overwhelming, how much no promo there is for him
Both dknc3 and justadram tagged me in this fic inspiration writing meme, so I figured I should stop being lazy and actually do it! Because I looooove the meme, it was literally me being all "ugh. Typing." XD So here are five of my fics that I think are notable for one reason or another, and the inspiration behind them: The Girl in the Mirror - My first ASOIAF was about Lysa Tully, and I went on to write several other Lysa fics. However, I noticed a trend not just in my own writing but in almost all the Lysa fics in fandom, that the fics focused most often on her time as a girl in Riverrun and, to a lesser extent, her experiences between AGoT (or just before) through ASoS. So I wrote this fic for the Heroine Big Bang (because I wanted to choose an unconventional heroine, and writing Lysa always feels like putting on a pair of comfortable shoes), examining all the years inbetween her marriage to Jon Arryn and his death. To my knowledge, it is one of a very few fics about that time in her life, and is almost certainly the longest. The girl who ran so fast - Written for the 100 Fairytale Prompt table (of which I've written six, ahahaha). The one and only Harry Potter fic that I've written in the last...gosh, must be at least five or six years. I think I kind of left the fandom before heading off to college, so that would be even further back. But Minerva McGonagall has always been my favorite HP character, the one that I wrote most often about, and her backstory being released via Pottermore gave me all kinds of feels. So I wrote this little diddy. It is far from my best work, but I still have a fondness for it just because it is Minerva! The keys to the kingdom got locked inside the kingdom - So most 'Targs win!' AUs focus on the next generation (Jon, Robb, Dany, and Sansa most often) and they pick up at a time where the Starks and Targs have gone "welp, let bygones be bygones!" Not that I don't understand where those fics are coming from, but I wanted to examine a less happy resolution for all involved, more of the immediate aftermath. And this very serious thought process was interspersed with "LOL CAN YOU IMAGINE NED IN THE FREE CITIES? HE WOULD BE SO MISERABLE LULZ." XD And of course...this is Ned/Cat. to stand outside your virtue - My entire inspiration for this fic was talking with Alex (aka timeandchances) long ago about how things would have been different if Brandon had lived. "Would Ned and Cat still do teh sex?" was our main concern. The answer is "probably not, but FANFIC!!! :D" I've since written quite a few 'Brandon lives' AUs, but this was where it all started! Rise On Water - I REALLY wanted to participate in the Game of Ships fairy tale AU challenge, but had no idea where to start. So I started perusing a list of fairy tales, and came across 'Little Brother and Little Sister" and of course my interest was immediately piqued. I read it over and thought it would fit PERFECTLY with Jaime/Cersei, and I'm really proud of how it turned out, and how I incorporated some of the fairy tale elements. That said, it is by far my most unpopular fic so apparently I'm the only one who likes it. XD
If no one else has asked for asoiaf, then I'll do it, 'cause I'm new. :o)
