Do you remember when Takeshi was ambushed and beaten, and found in a pool of his own blood, barely hanging on to life? He remembers it. That’s not the happy memory though. The happy memory is after... when he’s in the hospital -- after being told he’ll probably never walk again. Seeing his dreams of baseball and the path of the sword be whisked away from him. That’s not the happy memory either.
The happy memory is waking up, numb and half dead, to see a former enemy at the foot of his bed. To see those wings spread, hands outstretched... and to know, deep down, that he made a difference somehow. For someone like Byakuran to heal him, he had an effect. He made a difference.
Sure, it could have been part of Byakurans grand scheme or something, but in that moment, that wasn’t a concern. Feeling was coming back to his legs, and the sheer, euphoric joy is to this day the best damn feeling he’s ever felt.
For that, he forever owes a debt.

There he is again... excitedly tutoring Tsuna about something or other. His expression is so open and eager, those green eyes bright with loyalty and love. Even if it’s not aimed at him, seeing Hayato so happy... it brings a smile to his face. Small, but there nonetheless.
The ache in his chest is dull, and he forces himself to look down at his own paper. The numbers seem to swim and dance, mocking him. A scrunch of his nose shows his distaste for math of any sort, but he forces himself to concentrate.
He can do this. Nevermind the fact he’s been on the same problem for nearly an hour.
