Scott’s tree-kangaroo (Dendrolagus scottae)
Also known as: tenkile, fiwo
Scott's tree-kangaroo is a species of tree-kangaroo endemic to a very small area of the Torricelli Mountains of Papua New Guinea. Results from Distance Sampling Research estimate the population to be at around 200, making this species one of the most endangered mammals in the world. The cause of their decline is predominantly due to an increase of human population. It is hunted for its meat and is one of the main sources of protein for many residents of Papua New Guinea.
