fiindekano liked this for a starter
He had thought it, at first, the desperate, broken madness of torment talking, and not Nelyo's sound reason. He had thought it would pass. But his eldest brother remained firm, and the situation was beginning dangerously to resemble a true shift of power. Curufinwë would not add to his brother's pain with sharp or subtle words. He had not the heart for it. Therefore, instead of speaking he held his peace, and walked alone in heavy thought.
It was walking further than he had intended and more listlessly than he was accustomed that Curufinwë crossed paths with the eldest son of the one who would be king in the stead of his brother.
"Findekáno."
Ah, that is a cold tone to take with the cousin who has just rescued my brother! But a small, harsh, hateful side of Curufinwë resented the first son of Ñolofinwë even for saving Nelyo -- for he had done what none of them had dared attempt.
Of course, he thought then, by now familiar with the story of his cousin's brave rescue, had one of us, his brothers, hazarded an attempt, we would surely have perished -- for no Eagle would Manwë have sent to us!
"I am just come from Nelyo's tent. He rests."

"I understand the hesitation" Tuor spoke slowly. Something in Curufin’s voice, a barely detectable nuance of distrust, made him realise that his offer for help would not be accepted. But Tuor was not insulted. He understood why his offer was rejected. After Nirnaeth Arnoediand, it seemed that the trust between the Eldar and the Edain was damaged, even lost.
And Tuor did not know if the relationship would ever be as good asit once was. However, he decided to ignore the elf’s hesitation and speak politely to someone who was far more important than he would ever be. ”But, if you ever need my help, I will gladly offer it my lord” Tuor spoke. “My family and I will happily help you and your brothers.”
The smile Curufin summoned was slight, but the tightness of it was hardly detectable. It was a practiced smile, a diplomat's smile, a politician's smile. It was the rise that came before the ruin -- though with this Atan, at least, Curufin meant to keep his self-restraint.
"And how can you help us, I wonder?" said Curufin, with careful levelness to his tone. "Can you, perhaps, lend us enough soldiers to take back the northern lands we lost? Can you steal into Angband, as Beren and Lúthien did, and bring us back our treasures? Can you bring Morgoth to his knees and cast him from this world forever? We are fallen, Tuor son of Huor. There is no help that can raise us up again. Yet I thank you for your offer. I will remember it."
