Tempe PD K9s to benefit during Elite Jewelry and Loan Grand Opening

TEMPE, AZ (November 8th, 2016) - Elite Jewelry and Loan, a family owned Jewelry store in Tempe, announces their grand opening on Friday, November 18th through Saturday, November 19th. During the two-day event, Elite Jewelry and Loan will donate 10-percent of sales to the Tempe Police Department K9 Unit through the Tempe Police Foundation. The officers and their K9s will be offering a Q&A and demonstration at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 19th. Sergeant Tony Miller of the Tempe Police Department says “Our K9’s are one of the most valuable resources to the Police Department and we use them on a daily basis to fight crime. Oftentimes, unforeseen needs related to the health, equipment, or training of the dogs comes up that are not in the budget and other means such as donations are used to assist in the costs. We appreciate your support of the Tempe K9 Unit and hope to see you at the event”.

During grand opening weekend, visitors may enter for a chance to win a Rolex and various other prizes. There will be door prizes and raffles during both days along with jewelry discounted up to 80-percent off. New customers will receive first month interest-free loans. For active members of the U.S. military, loans are always interest free.

Separately from the two day event a ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 to mark the official opening of Elite Jewelry and Loan.

Social media is typically considered a vice of the current times by older generations of people, but today I feel as if it is something that is vital to how we live our lives. A girl on campus received a threatening and ambiguous letter on her car yesterday that is being compared to the Santa Barbara shooter's manifesto. While this may be a bit of a stretch, it is still something that I, and a large amount of the people on campus, believe should be taken seriously. Had it not been for social media, very few people would have known about this threat. There has been no email or any form of alert sent out to students by ASU or Tempe Police Dept. Had I not checked Facebook (or Twitter or Yik Yak) this morning, I would not have even known that there was a threat made. While no one is really sure about what to expect, it would still have been nice to have received some form of notification from ASU or the police. Most sororities on campus have decided against wearing their letters today out of fear, a fear that may be out of proportion to reality, but it's hard to tell with what little information we have been given.
