For the TV Show Ask Game (ugh, so many good ones to choose from): #10, 25, 35, 39 and 51, please? ♥
10. what’s one show you thought you’d love but turned out to really hate?
This is probably controversial on tumblr, but Derry Girls. Hate is a strong word--I just watched a couple episodes and didn't vibe with the characters--but every time I see gifsets, I'm like "that show looks so good!" and feel weirdly guilty for not liking it.
25. do you prefer proper opening credits, or a simple title card?
Opening credits, always. It feels like the creators telling viewers what they think the show is/what they want it to be. And I love the way that a good theme song can immediately put you in the mindset for a show, even if you haven't watched it in ages.
35. who are your top 5 TV characters right now?
39. do you prefer 22 episode seasons, or 13?
10-13. Longer seasons often drag for me, and shorter seasons feel underdeveloped. (I really wish JatP had an extra episode between 3 and 4, because we miss some time and crucial bonding, particularly for Julie's friendships with Alex and Reggie.)
That being said, I do love the amount of character development that some shows with 22 episode orders could slowly unravel over the course of a season. It really depends on the show and what they're trying to do with plot and character.
51. what’s one TV cliche you despise?
Drama based on miscommunication, especially when it's a miscommunication just because Character A gets angry and won't let Character B explain at first. Obviously, this is a real thing that happens in real life so it's not like miscommunications aren't realistic, but there are ways that it tends to get executed on TV where it feels purely like a plot device rather than something that's rooted in characters and their relationships.
(The flipside of this are shows like Normal People and Ted Lasso, who build up their miscommunications over the course of episodes and make them so rooted in those characters and relationships that, while as a viewer you're screaming at your children to JUST HAVE A HEALTHY CONVERSATION ALREADY, the miscommunications feel completely in-character and earned.)
