What is a TTY? - AboutTTY.com
TTY is the old school concept of enabling deaf and hoh individuals to make phone calls. Nowadays, with all the texting technology, itβs surprising how the deaf/hoh community is still isolated from the hearing community. In 2019, thereβs a lot of businesses, corporations, companies, and institutions that do not accept texting/email as a way to contact them.
So, yeah...itβd be amazing if teleprinting/text calling was more of a common thing β not just for personal contact, but for all contact.
Look at this adorable freak, it's a #teleprinter it was used to send "telexes" in 1981. Which I had to Google, it's an international system of #telegraphy with #printedmessages transmitted and received by #teleprinters using the public #telecommunications network. "networks can be set up to send and receive text by telex" It sounded like a convoluted system actually. But I live in a world where Emails are a thing, and my D&D is run in 3 different countries via Skype... So yeah! (at Museum of Science and Industry)
