OTMA in 1904.
From the testimony given by their nursemaid Alexandra " Shura" Tegleva to Nicholas Sokolov in 1919:
"Olga Nikolaevna was the eldest of the sisters. She was 22 years old when leaving Tobolsk. She was of average height, neither fat nor thin, with ashen blonde hair. She had large, deep, clear eyes, very kind. This was her most attractive feature, though her facial features weren't perfectly symmetrical, her face was very sweet. She loved reading and music. She loved poetry and copied many poems. But I don't know if she wrote poetry herself. I heard that Hendrikova wrote poems. Olga improvised on the piano. In life, she was impractical, didn't like housekeeping or mundane life. She was kind but uneven-tempered: quick-tempered, yet forgiving.
Tatiana Nikolaevna was two years younger. She was taller than Olga Nikolaevna and darker. She was very thin but strong and robust. Her bluish eyes were somewhat widely set. Her character was even but reserved and authoritative. She was prouder than all her sisters. She was very diligent, neat, the most thorough and serious. She played the piano well and loved handicrafts.
Maria Nikolaevna was 18 years old. She was slightly shorter than Tatiana Nikolaevna. Her hair was lighter than Tatiana Nikolaevna's and was the only one that curled. Her eyes were large, bluish-gray. She was the most good-natured, simple, and frank. She loved children very much, and if a child came to her, it gave her great pleasure to nurse them.
Anastasia Nikolaevna was 16 years old. She was a short, plump girl. She particularly gained weight in Tobolsk and had the appearance of a "piggy bank". She could not be called harmonious or proportionately built. Her nose had no bridge. She was lighter than Maria Nikolaevna. Her eyes were light gray. She was somewhat lazy. She loved to read but didn't like preparing lessons. She loved animals very much.
Both Maria Nikolaevna and Anastasia Nikolaevna played the piano, but not particularly well."
