Monday Machinations 👷🏾‍♀️ Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tšepang Molisana and I hold a BSc in Property Studies, from UCT 1. I studied Real Estate because my high school art teacher, Mrs Marais made me fall in love with buildings. I also met several property developers who made me see the career as both creative and one that will give me the opportunity to create jobs and invest in vital communities 2. I wanted to become a writer and study media. Despite receiving a bursary upon acceptance into a humanities programme at UCT, we were worried that writing would be unsustainable (lol), so I elected to focus on a degree in the faculty of engineering and the built environment instead 3. My degree was once described by a lecturer was ‘the business side of construction’. It is essentially the meeting point between civil engineering and finance. To say that I was severely challenged is an understatement. But I remained committed, and in the end I graduated with an 89% average for Property Finance 4. After trying and failing to find work in my sector, we started work on a residential real estate development. I decided to pursue my real estate license and work as a property practitioner in order to raise capital and gain experience and knowledge 5. I’ve worked in retail and media throughout my studies.
