What to do when your baby starts teething
There are two stages when a new parent feels like running and hiding. The first is when their newborn just gets home. Then the new parent has to get used to the irregular sleeping patterns and feeding times what seems like every five minutes. The second is when their baby or babies start teething.
Baby teething is a natural part of the growth process, like takingthe first step or speaking for the first time.Typically baby teething starts when the child is about six months old. Some babies start teething when they’re as little as three months old, while others start showing the signs as late twelve months.
Signs that your baby may be teething
Teething infants are easy to spot. They’re more fussy, moody and irritable than other babies their age. It’s important to realize when your baby starts teething, for your sake as well as the baby’s. When you know your baby is teething, you can at least help them through the process.And it would keep you from worrying yourself sick. Here are some signs that your baby’s teething process may have just begun.
· He or she begins drooling, at least more than usual
· Your baby starts looking for ways to rub his or her gums
· Your little one becomes moody. He or she may even throw tantrums
· You start noticing that the baby either has a hard time feeding or refuses to feed at all. That’s because they feel more pain when they feed
· The infant has red gums, and they fuss more when you touch the gums
Teething is a hard process. It’s a stressful time for both the parent and the child. For the most part, there's nothing a parent can do at this point to ease the pain completely. However, he or she could try several things to ease the process.
A few tips for to deal with the teething baby process
1. Use Teething Gels and Powders
Gels and powders are some of the best baby products when it comes to dealing with teething infants. Just spread a little of the gel on the baby’s gums to soothe them. You’d have to put a little water on the powder to make a paste before applying it to your baby’s gums though.
2. Cool the Little One’s Gums
Cool temperatures help lower inflammation and reduce pain in a teething baby’s gums. There are several home remedies you can use to cool your baby’s gums. You could wet a cloth with cold water and press it to the baby’s gums. Alternatively, you could give the baby something cool to bite, for example, a teething ring that’s been put in the refrigerator.
3. Use Teething Aids
Teething babies itch to ‘scratch’ their gums; that’s what teething aids are for. Baby teething mittens are great newteething aids. You can have your baby chew on his or her mittens to ‘scratch’ that itch.
With those few tips, you should have an easier time putting your teething baby to sleep.
