Some days I was asked nearly 20-30 times to pose for selfies with random strangers, generally young guys populating their social media feed with our photos.... most of the time it was fun and as my work is all about making portraits there wasn't a question that I had to collaborate. One academic writer in India had warned me not to be one who 'parachutes in, takes a quick photo and leaves' without trying to gain a deeper understanding of my subjects. I understood his concern well, although he clearly made assumptions about my work and me that were wrong. But if anyone knows how to parachute in to get that selfie with a white guy, it's Indians!
