Meet the Techs: Jaclyn M. Harris
Pittsburgh Glass Center offers a Technical Apprenticeship to glass artists looking to learn how to operate a state-of-the-art studio while developing their artistic practice.
At any given time during the year, we have three of these apprentices temporarily on staff. Many of them have ended up coming on as full-time staff members. Some of them have stayed in Pittsburgh and become some of our most important and trusted instructors while others have moved on to work in studios all over the country.
One of our current techs in residence is Jaclyn Harris. Jackie is originally from Pittsburgh and was a SiO2 student before heading to college at Maryland Institute College of Art.
How did you get into glass?
Right when I was learning how to drive and enjoying ceramics, I joined PGC's SiO2 program in 2009 and haven't stopped since.
What's your favorite piece that you made?
Whatever the current project is. So, right now it’s a blown pillow vessel + sculpture collaboration w/ another PGC artist.
Dogs or cats?
DOGS!<3
What is your favorite thing about Pittsburgh so far?
It’s my home and always will be!
Jackie will have one of her more recent creations featured in this year’s Art on Fire Celebration & Auction . Pre-bidding will open for the piece below, Afghan, at 9am at September 14, 2015!
