Made a new reddit account last night to very carefully ask the people on the buildapc subreddit if the PC build list I put together has any compatibility issues or anything.
I put a case with a slot for a disc drive, and the drive itself in the list... And they keep telling me to take it off and just get a USB one to save cost.
I don't know how to articulate to these people that I absolutely do not want a disc drive that isn't built into the case without pissing them off and getting shredded to bits like redditors have done to me in the past.
The shitty little old laptop I'm working with right now has a built in disc drive. I don't use it super often, but when I do, I really appreciate not having to go find and drag out another peripheral and take up another USB slot. It's so convenient to be able to just pop the disc right into the computer without any extra setup.
Even if it costs a little extra, I'd vastly prefer having a built-in drive that's plugged into my motherboard than one I have to figure out how to store separately from the computer, or have awkwardly sitting on top of it.
Thing is, none of them have said the disc drive would struaght up make the setup not work or run poorly. They just said the case isn't the best.
May just let it be and take bits of their advice, but pick a better case that accomodates a disc drive.
!!!!! SCRAPPY UPDATE!
All the rest of Scrappy's components are set to come TOMORROW!!
Please send good vibes in hopes my packages arrive safe and on time!!!
I got a good paycheck, should I go ahead and get all the necessary components to make my new PC?
Buy the puter
Wait to buy the puter
Changed my plan with my PC.
I'm going to buy all the other components first, and then the GPU last.
With the CPU I chose, I'll be able to game before I get a dedicated GPU. It has integrated graphics and is, on its own, more powerful than my entire current laptop.
So, I'm ordering my case tonight, and I'll slowly buy the rest of the parts after.
I've decided I want to do this because just gaming with the new CPU is gonna be a considerable jump in performance, and I know that'll be very satisfying. Then, I'll get another huge jump when I'm able to buy the graphics card. I think I'll appreciate 2 boosts more than just one.

I've decided I'm going to slowly buy my computer piece by piece, rather than all at once.
And of course, the GPU I want keeps coming back in stock and then disappearing by the time I click the stock notification link.
Are a lot of people building midrange gaming PCs right now, or is there another stupid crypto boom I have to worry about?
I keep looking at my build list over and over... I feel like a dog with a treat balanced on its nose.
I've been meaning to make a tag guide for this blog for a while now! I made one for my horror blog when I made it, so I feel one is overdue here. Under the cut.
--------------------------------------------------
#Healercore: Has a similar meaning to the trash tag, but specifically refers to the concept of Healers, users of a magic system in a story I've been writing since I was very young. A Healer can swallow someone whole, and the magic inside their body will then heal them of any illness or injury they have. Healing also causes physical and behavioral changes in its users.
#Trash: If I tag one of your posts with this, it isn't meant as an insult! This is my replacement for the vore tag on this blog, as I don't consider myself a part of that community anymore. I'm going to go back through my old posts and replace that tag with this one when I have time. There are also posts that aren't tagged from back then that I need to fix. After this is done, I'll remove this note. I do exclusively soft, safe stuff and always will. If you're interested in stuff like this, I have a sideblog dedicated entirely to it: @spoopy-but-safe
#Trashcore: Like the trash tag, but much looser. I tend to call things that go in this tag "trash-adjacent". For example, holding someone in your pocket is trashcore. Talking about swallowing things that aren't food is also trashcore.
#Ocean yearning: Pretty much anything that has to do with the ocean in general. Also includes creatures who live there.
#River yearning: Like the above tag, but for freshwater environments and creatures. Includes not just the river, but lakes, ponds, etc.
#Heehoo sharks: Sharks, specifically. Posts with this will usually also have the ocean yearning tag.
#Woofs: Posts about wolves, my favorite animal. I will occasionally be very obnoxious about them.
#Werewoof what's a werewoof: Posts about werewolves, rather than regular wolves.
#Untitled bat dream: Posts about bats, and especially ones regarding the titular (untitular?) bat dream itself, and the story I'm writing based on it.
#Warm season horrors: Horror stuff based in spring and summer. It's an aesthetic and season I'm trying to build for myself.
#Mushroom shushroom: Stuff about or prominently depicting mushrooms.
#Bugs: I've decided I should no longer use this tag until further notice. I have removed many, but not all posts related to bugs. I may start posting again in that tag someday, but not now.
#Spoopy π: Halloween stuff. This is used nearly year-round, I apologize.
#Fursuiting πΊ: Posts regarding fursuiting. (I use the regular furry tag for non-suiting furry stuff)
#π²π²π²: Stuff to both mesmerize me and make me laugh while I'm high. This includes text and video posts.
#My art: Pretty standard. Art I've made in various mediums. I sew, sculpt, draw, and write. (Be careful going through this one! I may have trash I forgot about in this tag.)
#Poked mans: Pokèmon content. May change? Pronounced "poke-ed mans" in my brain.
#Yow wow: Posts about my build-a-bear werewolf, Yow. I like taking him and other plushies on adventures!
#Feast π¦: Posts pertaining to american thanksgiving. This tag won't be used too too much, but I'm making it in case anyone really really doesn't want to see it.
#Jolly π¦: Posts pertaining to christmas. This one WILL be used a lot.
(Not a tag, but a note: I change my profile pic during tagged seasons yearly! )
#Tech yearning: Me talking/whining about the various electronics I wish I had.
#Kiera Todd: The name of the main character of the story series I'm writing. I also use this name as an alias, because she's based directly on me.
#Healing: Stuff related to a specific magic ability in the universe of my writing. The character above is a Healer, meaning she has this ability. It is healing magic as the name implies, but the way the healing is done is very... Unconventional. I won't spell out exactly how here. That's what my sideblog is for. Also, when referring specifically to this ability and not the concept of healing in general, it's capitalized.
#aita: Sometimes I submit AITA posts to both the real blog and the blorbos one. I'll tag them with this when I reblog them.
#Scrappy puter: A tag specifically for the PC I'm building. Not named after scrappy doo, the name just kinda came to me.
#Bugsnax: I sometimes post about the game bugsnax. Simple as that. (Just kidding I have recurring brainrot about it.)
#Warm season joys: The inverse of warm season horrors. These are good things about when it's warm outside. There is some overlap with the horrors.
#Polls: Sometimes I post polls, they'll go under this tag.
#Game ideas: I want to make a video game someday. This tag will be full of my ideas.
#Scary π·οΈ: Scary stuff, or things that startled me. Will likely often be used in conjunction with my "Spoopy π" tag.
#Iris: Posts about my girlfriend.
#Dr. Jan Itor: Posts about my current job as a janitor. This is a reference to a joke from the show Scrubs, but I don't work at a hospital.
#Receipts: I'm going to start keeping a log of shitty things I've done so that I won't forget, and so people who need or want to can block me for them. This tag will be used for that.
#Yow enrichment: Posts featuring british accents that I find funny. I don't use this one much.
