I just started the Cor quests, and then, after dealing with the tomb of the Wise I noped my way out of it, back to a previously saved point, because there is no way I'm dealing with those mechs now. Nu-uh, no way, no how. I'm going back to killing monsters and gathering stuff. IgnisFelicis
Probably a good plan. Though the world map is extremely limited until you do those quests.
Also as a tips for the mechs- they are generally slow and their missiles that land on the ground take a few seconds to actually Go Boom so you have enough time to warp away, just watch for them.
Pro tip for taking them out: Warp Points Are Your Friend. Not only do Warp Points help restore your MP so you don’t run out of magic, but if you attack a mech’s legs or cannon turret via a Warp Strike, you’ll do bonus damage and have the chance to knock them over for a few seconds where you can wail on them without fear of reprisal.
Basically, until you Aren’t A Glass Cannon, don’t try to fight one up close and personal until you’ve knocked it over or done enough damage that its sparking and stuff. Just warp to a Warp Point, wait a second, then Warp Strike it. Whack it maybe three times if its standing or just whack it till its stands up if you’ve knocked it over, and then jump to a Warp Point again. Repeat ad nauseam until the mech is dead.
This is honestly my fav strategy for any confrontation that I do not feel I can steam roll. Just- Warp Point, Warp Strike, whack a few times, Warp Point, repeat.
ALSO ALSO- the little green bar for team attacks/tech attacks like Prompto’s Piercer? THAT IS YOUR FRIEND. While you run around screaming in terror, you can sic one of the others on it. Prompto’s Piercer works lovely on mechs (tbh it works lovely on A LOT of baddies) and can sometimes knock them over, but Gladio’s pretty good too. I forget what Ignis has equipped at the start of the game. BUT since the mech is in the Cor quests.
You have Cor on your team.
Cherish this, because you will not have an easier time fighting a baddy until you’re like- level 80.
Save your tech bar and then use him Whenever Possible, he is higher leveled than you at this point by a good margin and can do Serious Freaking Damage.
Basically Warp Points and the Tech Bar are your best friends throughout the entire freaking game and the sooner you master both fleeing like a coward and getting Crit Hits via Warp Strike in tandem with spamming your tech bar the sooner you will be able to survive battles without wasting a million and one potions.
Also also also last tip: make sure to pay attention to the damage numbers you’re doing when you attack anything, but especially things like Mechs or Big Monsters. You have four weapon slots and multiple types of weapons For A Reason. A single Warp Strike using a weapon that does golden numbers of damage can do WAYYYY more total damage than a bunch of regular strikes with white numbers or purple numbers (if numbers are purple, swap weapon you’re using something that isn’t effective against that particular enemy).
Hope this helps!
