What Are the Best Practices for Team Projects?

After going through the research process with my team during last week’s class, I realized that there were multiple areas that the problem could take the form of. Due to the fact that our team came into the research process with multiple ideas that we were passionate about creating a vision for, I felt that it was important to consider all of the ideas before coming up to a singular definition. 

I began by synthesizing all of the research that we gained as a team and finding the various themes across our various interests. Using the “keywords” approach, I was able to find the areas of intersection across our team’s diverse ideas and begin to narrow in on the main problem scope. Since our ideas mainly focused on how to improve healthcare, I began to dig a little deeper into the current healthcare system, which allowed me to uncover additional problems that would need to be addressed. For example: 

With the increasing rise of wearable devices being utilized as a fitness tracking device, what was stopping users from storing their medical records on them? 

What were the current issues that users dealt with while using fitness trackers? 

How can fitness trackers and various wearable devices make the process of receiving healthcare and viewing medical records more efficient for users?

How can healthcare be made more accessible, so that all users can easily access their records at any time on any device?

My experience with a high performing team, I started in my high performing team as an additional support staff at work. The people I was working with were highly skilled in their respective departments and I was there to help support the marketing team. Everyone was working on a massive project with a department of ministry of Ontario for safety regulations on what safety wear their staff is able to use. Since this was a highly sought after project the right people were required within a sort span of time this is why this was a high performing team. This project was a great learning experience but since nothing can be perfect I noticed that there was sometimes a major gap between departments, which did not accept responsibility of delegated tasks, and sometimes communication was not transparent between departments. As conflicts do arise during teamwork the way I prefer to handle it is with respect and transparency, its understandable that issues do occur without reasoning but understanding what went wrong in the first place is the matter. As I ran into a situation like this before with my team, a mock up was supposed to be summited by mid night but wasn’t sent in on time. This gave a major backlash to the person who was delegated to submit the file but unfortunately this wasn’t the case. As everyone was upset I took the step to understand what went wrong, I got the information needed and presented it to the group and made them understand what had gone wrong and everything had fell into place once that approach was taken. With the experience I have received from my previous teams that I have worked with I will be carrying forward a different approach with teams its understood that a pushy person is not welcomes with other members, but having an approach with optimistic view will help ensure everyone is doing what they are strong at. Getting to know the team and understanding what their strengths are will allow them to have a greater working chemistry and help each other succeed with the project.
