Greta is moving in fast forward these days... in a good way! Her surgical wound is finally healing over, she’s growing a nice shiny fur coat over her bare back from the multiple epidurals she had, and she’s spending a lot of time in the pasture with a few of her friends. . Today was a big day for her socially. I’ve talked a lot about how her health issues and recovery were the biggest part of the battle, but that the other part was working on getting her back with her herd after being separated since early February. She’s been going out successfully with a few of the low key goats in the herd for a while now but our biggest concern has been Abbie (our herd queen) and Alice (Abbie’s daughter who wants to be in charge). . Today Greta and Alice sorted things out and made amends. After about an hour of supervised arguing early this morning (before it got too hot), they finally called a truce. They then spent the next several hours hanging out in the pasture with Matilda, Mabel, Magnolia and Annabelle, who Greta has been doing fine with for a while now. . This leaves one more battle of a step... getting Abbie on board. We are going to let the dust settle on today’s progress for a while before we work on that one but the day is coming very soon. Abbie is going to be the tough one. She’s big and stubborn and aggressively adamant that she is in charge of the herd. But to Greta’s benefit, Greta has the entire rest of the herd on her side now, which she has earned one buddy at a time. . #TeamGreta (at Beaman's Fork Soap Company)

Greta is celebrating a milestone today ❤️ This will be her first night off of antibiotics! 🤞🏻 We can only put our hopes in the best, but she’s shown no signs of infection from her latest surgical wound for a few days now. She’s been through SO MUCH since her initial emergency surgery on Valentine’s Day and it’s been a very long road with lots of bumps for all involved, including a second major surgery weeks ago to get her to this point. She’s such a trooper and the love and support from #TeamGreta has been such a key to getting her here. It has been a good day, you guys. ❤️❤️❤️She’s roaming and playing and talking and being the clown (shown here) that she is. She’s so happy ❤️ We are hopeful we are seeing the light at the end of this incredibly long tunnel and sending so much love out to all of you who have seen us through to this point. Greta is feeling good this morning and is actually playing with one of her buddies for the first time since before her emergency surgery in February 💕🐐💕 Today is a good day! . . GRETA UPDATE: First off, THANK YOU for checking in on her!! The past 3 1/2 months have been a roller coaster for her and us, and the love and support Greta has received from all of you has really been nothing short of incredible. . . Ten days ago, I noticed drainage through the staples from her second surgery earlier this month (complete mastectomy) Our farm vet came out that day, confirmed an infection, worked with the vet school via phone, and we flushed it out and put in drains. Greta was put on a very high dose of antibiotics, which she is still on today. . . The Boy and I have been flushing it out every evening since, and two days ago we got the ‘go ahead’ to remove the drains and staples. We are still flushing it out (without the drains) for the time being and taking this day by day. 🤞🏻 Greta’s spirits are good and she’s tolerating the daily ordeal better than anyone could expect... it isn’t fun and I know that. . . Combine that with our Project Fence starting last week (that had been in the works and scheduled for a while) and my head has been spinning!!! And now the rains come. Days and days of rain. . . Today, though. We had a decent day where I could turn Greta out in a make-shift pen and I put not one, but THREE buddies out with her. I’m adding buddies in their order of non-dominance and working our way up. I could have put Magnolia the yearling in here too but this was enough for today, and Maggie really could care less where she is... 😂 . . Greta was out with these girls for 3-4 hours before the rains came again. It was a good span of time and she was exhausted afterward. That is a lot of socializing for a goat who has basically been on stall rest recovering from multiple surgeries for 3 months. . .
