Hi, it’s no trouble at all!! And I’m happy you’re enjoying my fic!!

Okay so yeah I’ve done a ton of research for this aspect of the fic and I’m trying my best to represent a Hindu Raven accurately, and asked people for help, and I’m probably gonna get a sensitivity reader for a specific subplot in the faaar future of the series. Plus I welcome critique in general, and especially when it’s about representation!

As for how did I fact-checked, I kinda have a everything-I-can-get-my-hands-on style of research? So I’ll start with general ‘how to write x character’ or ‘common stereotypes to avoid’ guides, I’ll google specific questions (which is the bulk of it), go through as much of Google Books as it lets me, read folk tales, watch movies and shows… I feel like the weirdest things have offered me insight into any given culture that you wouldn’t have expected to find there, so I’m not above anything (Buzzfeed style videos, stand-up comedy… it’s a way to do writing related stuff and unwind at the same time).

You’re actually not the first to message me about my take on Hindu Raven. People are vigilant of accurate representation, which is a good thing! Obviously my writing any culture/religion/race I’m not part of is never gonna be as insightful/poignant/useful as someone writing their own lived experience, but I think the consensus is it’s still good and valid for outsiders to write diverse characters, as long as you’re doing enough research to unlearn you biases and be able offer valuable representation, asking people questions, and accepting criticism.

Basically I wanted to take all the ways Raven has been coded as Hindu (especially in the 80s comics) and make her actually Indian and Hindu.

Specifically she's half Indian and half white, because Trigon shows up on the fic and he's The Worst Character in that world so I chose not to make him a person of color.
