Tech Week Day 2
[AO3]
Hey I did this one in a timely manner! And it’s longer! Funny that I unintentionally did todays prompt yesterday by accident. Eh this was the first idea I came up with so I hope it isn’t too all over the place.Â
Tech’s tiny hands were covered in cuts as he attempted to fix his goggles.
He’d turned off almost all the lights in the room, say for the desk lamp he was hunched near, in the hopes that his ori’vods wouldn’t find out what happened.
His goggles had been taken by the other clones.
This wasn’t the first time it’d happened, but it was the first time they’d broke.
He could still hear the gearing laughter they emanated as the regs ran away from the scene of the crime.
He’d had to pick up every piece of glass in the futile hope that maybe he could fix them himself. That maybe, he could avoid anyone finding out.
He was struggling though.
He was wearing an older pair of goggles, with an outdated prescription, to try and make out what he was doing.
The biggest problem though, was keeping his panic under control.
The idea of one of the trainers finding out and punishing him was part of it; his greatest fear was his vod’s finding out, and what they’d do in response.
As his mind wandered he didn’t notice how dangerously close his finger tip was getting to one of the glass pieces.
“Ah-” he hissed, pulling his finger away as the piece dug into one of the few tips that weren’t covered in bandages already. He began to suck on, attempting to help with the blood now flowing out of it.
He needed to focus, it was a delicate operation after all.
“Tech? You okay” Wrecker’s voice cut through the dark room. Tech froze up in fear as he looked at the mess in front of him.
Glass shards everywhere, blood droplets staining the table, and a smattering of glue. He knew instantly that he wouldn’t be able to hide it in any meaningful way.
Wrecker was better than Hunter or Crosshair, but still not what he wanted to be dealing with.
“Wrecker- I didn’t hear you come in!” his nervousness creeped into his voice in a more obvious way than he’d wanted.
He turned around, facing Wrecker as he did his best to use his body to shield the mess behind him.
“Well you were focused on- whatever you were focused on. You okay though? I thought-”
“I’m fine!” he said, cutting off his brother in a manner far too quick to appear fine.
“Just a minor shock is all, you know how I can be caught off guard by those.” as he explained this he unconsciously began to motion with his hands.
He was avoiding eye contact with Wrecker but out of the corner of his eye he saw in the dim light as his vod’s expression changed from one of general worry to palpable panic.
He looked down at his hands and let out a quick “Ah-”. Blood still dripped down from the newest cut adding emphasis to the already disconcerting amount of bandages on his hands.
“What happened! Your hands are- I’ll get Hunter to-” Wrecker began to head for the door on instance, but just as he reached it Tech cried out.
“No! Please don’t tell him. I can handle this myself!” He was trying to come up with some way to ease his overly caring ori’vod. “I’m fine Wrecker, really.”
Wrecker shook his head, stepping away from the door and instead heading back over to Tech at the desk. Grabbing Tech’s bleeding finger and applying pressure on it, doing his best to try and make the bleeding stop.
“Wrecker please, I don’t want Hunter to panic. You know how he gets when he panics! He’ll get one of the trainers and they’ll blow this all out of proportion!” He pleaded, knowing full well that what he was saying was true.
Wrecker bit his lip, he also knew Tech was right but he also knew that he needed medical attention for his hand.
Tech read Wrecker’s expression easily and came up with a compromise. “If it’ll give you comfort, you could always tend to them. Only if you don’t tell Hunter about this!”
At that suggestion Wrecker let out a heavy sigh, looking down at his younger adiik he nodded begrudgingly.
“I won’t tell Hunter, if you let me take care of your hands.”
Tech smiled at Wrecker, glad he’d been able to talk him away from causing the scenario he’d feared would come to pass when the goggles first shattered before him in the hallway.
“You’ll tell me what happened though, right?” Wrecker asked, he stepped away from Tech to turn on the lights and grab the medic kit.
“Only if you won’t be mad.” he replied, following Wrecker over to his bunk.
“Fine, I hate having to make all these promises you know!” he bemoaned.
“I know, but it’s important to me that you.” Wrecker began to disinfect the wounds and it dawned on Tech that he wouldn’t be able to hide this forever.
For now though he could certainly try, even if it made things more complicated in the future.
