A little follow up drabble to the earlier doodles cuz these two are heckin adorable and I will die for them
Taylor was practically giddy as he spun around to face Gladstone.
Ā āAre you sure itās okay to have all this? It seems excessive.ā
Ā āThreads, itās fine, honest,ā Gladstone rose from the chair and approached him with a lazy grin, āeven if we hadnāt gotten lucky and they had excess stock to take from, I wouldnāt care. Besides, you can never have enough outfits! One for every day of the week, right?ā
Ā Taylor cocked his head, eyes curious and surprised.
Ā āIs that true? How do you keep up with that?ā
Ā āN-no, no, Iā¦.well, I guess some people do that. But me, nah I just kinda reach in the closet and throw on whatever I grab. My luck? It always looks great.ā
Ā He flushed a bit, toying with his sleeves or tugging at the leg of his shorts.
Ā āY-youāre sure thisā¦I look okay?ā
Ā Gladstone smiled, resting hands on his shoulders.
Ā āI think you look great; but what about you? You like it?ā
Ā Taylor nodded, frowning a bit, as if confused by the question.
Ā āAnd it makes you happy?ā
Ā Another nod, and Gladstone grinned wider, shrugging.
Ā āThen thatās all that matters. Now,ā he turned to the pile of clothing store bags, āletās get these hung up before they wrinkle, eh?ā
Ā Taylor nodded, smiling a bit as he picked up a few of them. They made their way to the small room that had been fashioned into a sparse bedroom for him, with a small but comfy bed, and a shelf that was mostly empty, save for a handful of books, and various knickknacks heād come upon that he was eager to keep and display.
Ā After getting things put away, Gladstone let out a content sigh as he turned to Taylor.
Ā āWelp, that should set you up for a little while. Maybe we can look into some wall dĆ©cor or someā¦.thingā¦ā
Ā He trailed off as he observed him; Taylor was perched on the bed, eyes distant and though he wore a faint smile, it didnāt give off a sign of happiness. Frowning, Gladstone went over and took a seat beside him.
Ā āHey, you good? Whatās up?ā
Ā āIā¦ā He hesitated, sighing, āI justā¦youāre being so generous and kind to me and I donāt⦠I just donāt know if I deserve it.ā
Ā āWhaaaat? Course you do, why wouldnāt you?ā
Ā He glanced up with a weak smile.
Ā āBecause of everything you went through in Macaw and Iām a constant reminder of it?ā
Ā āA reminder of the fact that even when things look super bleak, thereās always something to cling to for hope of it getting better?ā
Ā Taylor tilted his head curiously, puzzled; Gladstone smiled, putting an arm around him.
Ā āI hit a lot of lows while I was there; and until you started helping me outātalking to me about whatever little subject we could think of, dropping off my stuff directly when you really didnāt need to, staying with me when I didnātā¦.didnāt wanna be alone.ā
Ā Taylor shrugged a little, as if it was nothing special.
Ā āEveryone else there was set on either keeping me entertained or trapped; you were different, though. You actually cared, actually wanted to HELP me, and you DID. So yes, you deserve all this.ā
Ā āNo supposing, you do; and Iām happy to do it, so stop worrying, ākay?ā
Ā Smiling, Taylor gave a small nod, and Gladstone flashed a grin as he squeezed his shoulders.
Ā āAlright, then, soooā¦.whatta you wanna do now?ā
Ā āUmā¦.Iām not sure, whatā¦is there to do?ā
Ā āWell, we could go out to that Italian place, have a nice little dinner dateā¦.ā
Ā He slid closer, gaze soft as his arm snaked around his waist and the other took a gentle hold of his jaw. Taylor blushed heavily, giving an anxious giggle.
Ā āOooor we could just heat up some takeout and stay in, put on a movieā¦.have the night to ourselvesā¦ā
Ā āIā¦.think I like thatā¦that second one betterā¦i-if thatās okay with you.ā
Ā Gladstoneās response was a kiss, hand moving to hold the back of his head and deepen it. Taylor started a bit, before returning it, arms clumsily moving to wrap around him; his grip was feather light, uncertain. Heād seen couples before, watched their movements, and more recently viewed several soap operasā¦it didnāt LOOK difficult but trying to replicate it was.
Ā It clearly wasnāt a problem for Gladstone.
Ā He pressed forward, pushing them both down on the bed. A small sense of anxiety started forming, tightening his chest, despite his efforts to push it down. It was just jitters, he thought, nothing to be concerned for, or trouble Gladstone about.
Ā Gladstone broke the kiss, moving slightly lower and digging his beak into his neck feathers. This elicited a light squeal, and the ball of anxiety grew.
Ā What am I supposed to do now? Should Iā¦should I do the same? O-or should I kiss him? I-I donāt knowā¦!
Ā Shaking hands hesitantly rested against his shoulders.
Ā A-am I doing this right? What if I mess up?! I canāt disappoint him thoughā¦b-but I donāt know what to do, or if Iām ready for this form of intimacy orā¦.! I donāt know, I donāt know, I donāt knowā¦.!
Ā āā¦.w-wait! Waitwaitwait stopā!ā
Ā Gladstone quickly pulled away, sitting up with a concerned frown; Taylor had scrambled to the other side of the bed, facing away from him. He was shaking, and Gladstone tentatively laid a hand on his arm.
Ā āHeyā¦you okay? I-Iām sorry, was I moving things too fast? I was, wasnāt I? Iām sorryā!ā
Ā Taylor took a shaky breath, before turning over and pushing himself up.
Ā āN-no, no, Iām sorry! I just donāt what to do here, but Iā¦Iām fine, we canāwe can start over, Iāll do better this time, I promiseā¦!ā
Ā āHey, hey, listen to me,ā Gladstone gripped his shoulders firmly, an uncharacteristically serious expression to his face.
Ā āIf you donāt want to do anything, thatās FINE. We donāt have to do anything you donāt want to do.ā
Ā āB-but you want toā¦if thatās what you want to do then weāll do it, Iām fine, really!ā
Ā āNo, Taylor, if youāre not into this, then weāre not gonna do it!ā
Ā Taylor wore a wide eyed stare, looking lost, scared, and confused all at once.
Ā āButā¦.itās what you want, isnāt it?ā
Ā āI donāt WANT to do anything that YOU donāt want. If you just wanna veg out on the couch with frozen pizza and sappy chick flicks then we will.ā
Ā āBut Iā¦.itāll make you happy; I want to make you happy!ā
Ā āAnd I want YOU to be comfortable!ā
Ā The two fell silent for a moment; Taylor still looking shellshocked, and Gladstone somewhere between concern and slight anger.
Ā Then it melted away, and his grip loosened.
Ā āIs thatā¦.how things were, beforeā¦? When you worked for him?ā
Ā He winced, but after a moment, slowly nodded.
Ā āNothing elseā¦nothing else mattered. My only purpose was to appease his wishes, do whatever he needed me to do. Iā¦.I wasnāt required to think, or consider other options, orā¦..i-it didnāt matter if I didnāt like something, or what I wanted, orā¦.it justā¦didnāt matter.ā
Ā Gladstone listened silently, before shaking his head.
Ā āWell thatās not how things work here, okay? If you donāt like something, or donāt want something, or vice versaā¦.just tell me. Iām not gonna get mad, or yell at you, or make you do anything you donāt like.ā
Ā He reached up to cup his face, lightly stroking it with his thumb.
Ā āAnd Iām not gonna hurt you if you donāt. I promise.ā
Ā Taylor didnāt respond for a moment; then, he gave a small laugh, bordering on a sob. He slowly nodded, grasping his hands tightly. Gladstone smiled, and gave his forehead a quick peck.
Ā āSo, what do you want to do?ā
Ā āCan weā¦.can we just lay here?ā
Ā And so they settled in; Gladstone stretched out, with Taylor tucked close beside him, a hand running through his feathers, the way he always liked. He felt safe, and warm, andā¦.
Ā āHnnnā¦h-huhā¦? Yeah?ā
Ā He felt the slight tremors of a laugh, and the arm around him tightened.
