was listening to the most recent TM podcast ep w/ maisie adam and she was discussing how her task outfit was supposed to be sandy from grease but nothing was working/fitting right and all i could think was “sarah must be feeling so vindicated abt this” LMAO
LMAOooo LISTENNNnnn i think some people took my diatribe against maisie's outfit as being hateful of her appearance or her idea, but the crux of what bothers me is that it's not the funnier choice for it to be a flop costume than a decent homage. it's not some hilarious disaster. it's awkward for her to wear and for us to see; notice how in the edits it's not a running joke or something. cuz it's not funny. even the story of it being a flop isn't that funny. production should have gotten her some proper leggings AT LEAST and i STAND BY THAT as HORRIBLE as some of u think that makes me !! and YES i WILL stop going on about it !! and maisie girl i AM sorry it didn't work out like you hoped !!
and ig while we're being hateful...
of course there are other outfits i haven't liked hahaha we can't like them all right?
my potentially unpopular opinion is that i'm not much of a fan of complex costume outfits in general, especially if they're clunky for performing the tasks—since, again, most of the time that fact isn't even played up for comedy...
outfits i didn't love: zaltzman's cricket uniform, fern brady's alien jumpsuit, daisy may cooper's weird superhero getup, things like katy wix's and tim vine's cumbersome hats. i think the over-the-top costumes make an impact the first time you see them and then...not again (unless you're phil wang's penis)...and then they're just obnoxious when they physically hinder people. idk maybe i'm just lacking some whimsy lmao
as for just bad fashion? most of the men look boring, naturally, and i'm particularly hateful of a button down, suit jacket, and JEANS—but outfits i have actively disliked? sadly calling out desiree burch (hers must have been intentionally tragic but, again, if it's not funny then don't bother), iain stirling's tracksuit with the camo on the sleeves (truly bad, and some of his studio outfits were even worse bless him), sophie duker, and ivo graham's dumb shorts that even ed & frankie agreed were the wrong choice RIP
and using my advanced editing skills i have put them all in fashion jail :)
BUT LET'S NOT END ON SHADE because i like a lot of outfits!! i am not hateful!!
first of all suits are almost always a big thumbs up from me because i do appreciate any encouragement of my fantasy that men still dress like this on a day to day basis like it's 1940. particular praise for these:
john kearns is a very underrated lil dandy (i keep saying i'm gonna make a standalone post about that) but his suit wasn't quite as well-tailored as these so he didn't make the top 4 sorry</3
after saying 5 word salads ago that i don't love costume task outfits, i will admit the people who take a more lowkey approach to that do usually look great while expressing something interesting about their personalities/comedy:
inb4 "how is lee van cleef lowkey" or "how is freddie mercury lowkey" — they're essentially just wearing suits/jackets/coats, so they're costume-like without being particularly unmanageable, which i appreciate!
jumpsuits and boilersuits can be boring (not a crime) but some of them deserve the praise:
morgana's fringe was EVERYYYTHINGGG and i think this is the most noel noel has ever looked? he didn't make the cut but shoutout to dara's DOB patches that was very cutesy
now as for my FAVE looks? let's break it down:
i don't want to hear a damn peep about recency bias (one of my biggest pet peeves actually if i was allowed to have pet peeves about things people love which i DON'T because people can love what they love, life is very short♡) — withnail and i is so precious to me, it's such a cornerstone of my appreciation for british comedy AND for contemporary british comedy today, the coat, the billowing tie, the pizzazz of the popped collar, the confidence to pull it off. THIS. IS. IT. take notes, people!
i've always been such a fan of this utilitarian-inspired set: i love a set in general, the colour is very flattering, the fit is incredible(!!!), it's stylish while being practical (he can move in it plus it's warm enough for the bitter mornings). i have my quibbles with many of acaster's fashion choices but this is 10s across the board because note how i cropped out the stupid sunglasses
you can't out-do the doer 💅
ed hit every mark for me. suit? check. costume-like but not impractical? check. commitment? i mean, look at that hair. the little curls are you kidding me. the flower. the colours. the platform sneakers (not pictured). it's just the right level of stupid for the stupid comedy show i love it
honourable mentions: tim key, noel, katherine parkinson, morgana, bridget, jack dee
i wrote a whole essay 🙂
hahaha i just thought it was a fun topic—as long as no one takes it too seriously! comedy and fashion are subjective it's not that deep so pls don't @ me 🥹
me watching the taskmaster s20 finale essentially devolve into providing piss kink content on national television

what’s becoming increasingly funny over time is how the taskmaster fandom reacts to explicitly charged greg/alex moments
where even 2 yrs ago we were losing our minds at the smallest glimpse of taskhusbands content, we now watch these two all but outright admit they’re in a bdsm dynamic and we all just go “oh right okay then. sure i guess”
the thing abt taskmaster s20 is that i keep telling myself that i have a favourite contestant that isn’t phil ellis. but then phil ellis keeps appearing in my dreams
this reece outfit is great for the ppl in the Venn diagram of “attracted to reece shearsmith” and “first fictional crush was captain hook from peter pan 2003”
