Wine Tasking Kit
A couple months ago, I came across a new wine club. One that said to be different from the clubs you join at your favorite wineries because their shipments were actually personalize with wines you were guaranteed to enjoy. They were able to personalize your shipments by starting your membership with a kit designed to discover exactly what type of wines your palate desired. So, for just $9.95, I decided to give this wine club a try.
Within days, I received this precious kit of six 750ml wine bottles that came with a tasting mat to help keep track of the tastings, as well as instructions to how to use the kit and log onto a website where depending on your preferences, would determine what were the best wines for you!
Once logged in, it was time to taste!
I poured my two bottles of whites, the first was a 2012 Axium Sauvignon Blanc and the second was a 2011 Finial Chardonnay. Out of the two, I liked the Chardonnay. Based on this selection my wine profile was that of a Golden Child, who appreciates richer and oak-aged whites. I couldn't agree more!
The reds consisted of a 2009 Voila Pinot Noir, 2011 Nebbiola d'Alba, 2011 Red Blend, and 2010 Fortuna Cabernet Sauvignon. The tasting process for the reds was a little different than with the white because you had more to compare. After selecting your favorite from the first two reds, you continued to refer back to the one you liked best as you move down the wines. I liked the Pinot Noir best, making me a Class Act- someone who enjoys lighter-bodied, fruity wines that have an earthy complexity underneath. Not a bad match!
I however, didn't choose to continue with the membership because I felt the kit lacked variety and being a red drinking, I was not wowed by any of the red wines. Nonetheless, I had fun giving this kit a try in the comfort of my house and I believe its the perfect starting kit for any new wine drinker.
