Seventeen Year Old, LA Native Making Ripples on Social Media in a Big Way.
Teen Vogue, 2012
You know her as Rumi Winslow, and thereās no doubt that youāre following her on Instagram. Sheās a self made social media star, and people seem to be going crazy for her. What brought her fame was her freedom in her clothing design, using elements of Los Angeles, music and Ā her youth to fuel the pieces that people are practically knocking her door down for. She seems to be the perfect weapon in the fashion industry with an inside into the mind of teenagers, influence from her friends and creative expression that seems unmatched. With Ā this newfound fame, she has kick started a fashion blog, where she also sells her clothing along with a lifestyle vlog on YouTube. With her follower and subscriber count growing day to day, we canāt wait to see what this newfound social media star will do next. We were lucky enough to get a short interview with her, and hereās what she said:
āFashion has always been something that has interested me, taking control of something that ābrandsā you and making it your own. I want girls and guys younger andĀ womenĀ and men older than me to feel empowered when they wear my clothes, and when they wear any clothes. They own the clothes, the clothes do not own them. In a few years when Iām older I plan on having my own line and use a certain percentage of the money to give to charities around the world.
Ā As someone who was given a good life, itās always struck a chord when seeing people not as fortunate as I am, itās difficult to wrap my head around.ā
Not only is Ms. Winslow extremely young, but sheās very wise for her age and aware of whatās going on around her. We hope to see this teenager, that you may even go to school with make waves in the fashion industry and in the lives of people that she touches in her donations and open mind. Weāre all aboutĀ #peoplepower, and we hope everyone can get on board with the Rumi Winslow Movement.
That Teen Vogue article still hangs on Rumiās wall to this day, so she doesnāt forget where she came from, and what started it all. A year after that article was written about her, she was moving to London and continued to make waves in the public eye, some good things and some bad. With the media constantly watching her she had to try to be on her best behavior always. That was hard when you were one of Londonās most notorious party girls. She was all too excited for her own line to come out, and from the way her life was looking, it would not be much longer until she was on the right track again.
