A new feed, he let it hit his racket but he didn't try to hit it anywhere, as he watched her finally step on the court, approaching him. Suddenly it was just them to despite his team fluttering about on the outskirts of the court, getting ready for whatever was next trying to anticipate Tashi's coaching style, and his player style.
She asked such a simple question, but it felt so complicated, and as he did he stalled on an answer because he was scared. Terrified really, but he hated letting her see him like that. It didn't seem fair to let her see him like that, even he didn't think she would care, and probably would want it. But he tried so hard to be strong and perfect for her.
His shoulder ached, but he had kept it quiet, she was most likely noticing it now. Maybe. When she spoke, he looked at her, like he had since he was a teenager, with respect and awe.
He didn't want to answer her, he had been dreading this conversation for months, but he had put it off for too long. He might have really messed up. He looked at her, his hands falling to his sides, his racket loosely hanging in his hand, and he swallowed. And while Art was not a crier his eyes betrayed him, "I think I need the surgery, Tash..."
