Donāt sleep on the #R33 #GTR. #Godzilla #DoLuck #TAS2018 #RB26 #Renown (at å¹å¼µć”ćć» (Makuhari Messe))
For sure, one of the COOLEST cars at Tokyo Auto Salon has got to be the legendary KP47 Toyota Starlet with 3KR 137E engine built by Tom's Racing and driven by legendary driver Nobuhide Tachi. This engine was on display at Toyota Megaweb's History Garage in Odaiba! . . . @tomsracing.co.jp #fujispeedway #kp47starlet #3kr #137E #tomsracing #tokyoautosalon #TAS2018 (at å¹å¼µć”ćć» (Makuhari Messe))
āHow do you get to Tokyo Auto Salon? Ā How much is admission? Ā How do you apply for press passes? Ā Is one day enough to cover the show?Ā ā This post is pretty much a guide to Tokyo Auto Salon and will be super informative if youāve never been andĀ plan to go sometime in the near futureā¦
Tokyo Auto Salon ā biggest Tokyo convention of modified cars, women, and perverts⦠I mean photographersā¦Ā
Never been to TAS before and plan to go in the future? Ā Cool, this is pretty much my guide of how to survive Tokyo Auto Salon.
Things to bring to Tokyo Auto Salon: ā Ā Comfortable shoes (Donāt make the same mistake I did and only bring Vanās to Japan) ā Ā Lightweight warm jacket (It will be warm inside the Event Halls but cool/cold outside) ā Ā Backpack or a bagĀ for free swag (You can use your gf or friend as a mule to carry stuff as well) ā Ā Battery pack (At least 3350mAh, but I usually bring 26800mAh to last me half the trip) ā Ā Cash (They have a Family Mart and bunch of restaurants where they donāt price gouge like venuesĀ in the states) ā Ā Camera and lens (Wide angle lens at least 24mm for FF or 16mm for crop sensors)
If youāre there for media/press purposes: ā Ā Of course your gear ā Ā Passport (if youāre not from Japan) ā Ā Approved press papers or email with QR code ā Ā Business cards
Alright, these are the essentials Iād recommend for you to bring or have for the show. Ā I also like to travel light because carrying a bunch of stuff gets irritating when youāve covered 8 halls in a day.
How do you get to Tokyo Auto Salon? TAS has always been held atĀ Makuhari MesseĀ in the Northwest part of Chiba Prefecture. Ā You have the choice ofĀ traveling by car (if you have a ride) or train, but it will be at least a 40 minute toĀ 1 hour commute from metro Tokyo area, assuming you stay around there.
Donāt mind the starred locationsĀ and just click the photo for Makuhari Messeās location. Ā
How much is admission? Friday ā General Special Public (Pretty much advanced tickets) Advance or Pre-purchased online is 2,600Y or $23-25 USDĀ (depending on rate exchange) Day of show is 3,200Y or $28-29 (depending on rate exchange)
Saturday, Sunday ā General Admission Advance or Pre-purchased online is 1,800Y or $16-18 USD (depending on rate exchange) Day of show Adult is 2,200YĀ and Teens/kids 1,700Y
Just check Tokyo Auto Salon site for ticket information there.
How do you apply for press passes? You can apply online for press pass usually around mid December. Ā Depending who youāre doing coverage for, they will either approve your application within 10-15 business days or ask for more information. Ā You will then need your passport and business card when picking up your media passes.
Is one day enough to cover the show? For the normal general publicĀ doing coverage or visiting, no you wonāt be able to hit up all the Halls in the venue. Ā If you look at the map below, there are 11 Halls to go through, as well as a driving exhibition/demo area. Ā There are also special concerts that go on as well.
Very useful map from TAS 2017⦠if you can read in Japanese.
MuthafuckinPineappleApplePen Piko Taro was one of the opening acts at TAS 2017.Ā
If youāre special media or press pass holder and can sneak in Thursday night/day, that would be the best time to do coverage. Ā Booths will still be setting up but most cars should be ready. Ā If not, I would recommend arriving at 8AM to avoid the general public crowds. Ā If you have on comfortable shoes and took 2 of those 1o hr energy jelly packs, you might be able to cover the whole show. Ā If you do plan to cover the show in 2 days, Iād recommend walking around the parking lot as there will be a few hidden gems out there as well.
Thatās pretty much it for my guide to Tokyo Auto Salon⦠now onto my favorite photos from TASā¦
Also, if you havenāt seen my photoĀ coverage for Front Street MediaĀ by Kyle CrawfordĀ yet, you can check out Part 1 HERE and Part 2 HERE. Ā I sent the photos overnight to Kyle and had the article up within less than 24 hrs later. Ā Glad the photos didnāt sit around for too long either. Ā He did a great job and it almost felt like he was there at the show with me O_O.
Check out the coverage on Front Street Media by Kyle Crawford.
TAS wouldnāt be TAS without the models. Ā I canāt lie about that because who would go just to look at modified cars and partsā¦.
There were a bunch of celebs at TAS. Ā Drift King or Tsuchiya was doing interviews all day⦠I actually got to see him in the media room chilling earlier, but didnāt want to bother him =/ā¦Ā

Luckily some of the booth cars were on a stage displayā¦Ā
Like the new Honda Civic Type R seen hereā¦Ā
Which would rotate every 30 seconds or soā¦
Caught Tein Dampachi and female pachi at their photoboothā¦

Being a Toyota 86 guy, I had to check out the TRD kit for the new Kouki model⦠still not sure if I like itā¦
CWest also had a new lip for the kouki 86⦠not sure if Iām even feeling the new front bumperā¦
The Impulse kit for the AE86⦠in CFā¦

Ā Time attack FD RX7⦠ I believe CSG had some hand in building thisā¦Ā
One of my favorite shots of Under Suzuki taking a look at how ridiculously huge that wing is⦠jk.
BN Sport revealed new kits for the FD RX7 and R35 GTR. Ā Both aggressive looking as usualā¦
Earlier next to the BN sports booth cars, this was going onā¦Ā
One of the BN Sports guys liked watching the spectacleā¦
Top Fuel S2000 (top left), Ā Mad Mike Redbull TCP Magic FD RX7 (top right), and VARIS Kamikaze booth carsā¦
Last but not least, this was my press desk area.  Check out the photo on the right⦠some guys would bring 2-3 monitors, a cpu, and edit.  I need to step up my game next year.
This post wasnāt supposed to be long, but I couldnāt help it with all the photos I took. Ā Even Kyle had a tough time choosing photos to post. Ā As always, thanks for actually reading or skimming through to the end.

Miura-san aka @trakyoto drove his personal just finished #EG6 all the way from Kyoto to Tokyo 6+ hours just in time to load-in tonight at Tokyo Auto Salon. Nothing like a good drive, hope he still had heat in this stripped street terror. #VTEC #Pandem #Honda #Renown #TAS2018 (at Countdown JAPAN ć«ć¦ć³ććć¦ć³ć»ćøć£ćć³)
SO DAMN COOL. Durk Edwards, the driver of this AE86, is the first person I ever met with a Cusco rollcage. This was a longgggg time ago before his car had TRD flares! Respect to the OG AE86 heads like Durk who have had their cars for something like 20 years! . . . #AE86 #4AGE #4AG #TokyoAutoSalon #TAS2018 (at å¹å¼µć”ćć» (Makuhari Messe))
