Eat, Pray, Hex (Crescent Moon Mysteries) by Tara Lush
I am delighted to welcome Tara Lush to Escape With Dollycas today!
Hi Tara, Please tell us a little bit about yourself. I always feel a little boring when I answer this question! My life is really pretty simple: I live with my husband and Shih Tzu in Florida. I started writing romance and now Iβve moved into cozy mystery because I find that Iβm better at writing about murder than sex! I used to be a journalist and have covered some pretty wild things as a reporter. I enjoy baking, reading, and really bad reality TV shows (90 Day Fiance is my current fave). What are three things most people donβt know about you? I grew up in California in the 1970s and my first concert was when I was four: the Grateful Dead (thanks, Mom and Dad!) I once met Patrick Dempsey (Dr. McDreamy) while covering a news story. - I have vitiligo (an autoimmune disease that attacks skin pigment) What books/authors have most inspired you? Oh goodness! So many. Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers, Anthony Horowitz. I also adore Ellie Alexanderβs work.
What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book? I set all of my mysteries in Florida. For many years I was the crime reporter for a newspaper here, so a lot of my fiction draws on things I saw and experienced then. I donβt do a ton of research, but I do a LOT of plotting. Do you ever suffer from Writerβs Block? No. Being a former reporter helps with this β I know I have to write because itβs my job. What advice do you have for someone who would like to become a published writer? Read widely in your genre. Spend six months reading a lot. Thatβs the most important thing in genre fiction, to know what the readers want and expect. When you are not writing what do you like to do? I love going to yoga, walking with my husband and dog, and trying new cookie recipes. If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go and why? I REALLY want to go to Japan to see the snow monkeys. I am obsessed with primates.
What is next on the horizon for you? Iβm writing the second book in the Crescent Moon Mysteries series. Also, my agent is negotiating a contract for a new series with a publisher! Thank you, Tara, so much for visiting today! Now, keep reading for information about Tara's new release.
