they were having to start from scratch, but  insurance money  was dragging its feet, and they had to bills to pay as a company. so, p.t. had set up a  giant tent  in one of the fields on the outskirts of town, and   the barnum circus  continued. it was the   first show back   after a few weeks of rehearsing to feel out the new space.
anne was pulling  double duty . when she wasnât at the circus, she was helping get  phillip   back on his feet. burn injuries were nothing to mess with, and the possibility of   infection   was still something that terrified her. until his wounds closed, they werenât out of the woods, despite his  stubbornness  .
she finished the show and moved to her dressing area to change out of her costume and carefully place her  pink wig  on its mannequin head. she had been quick to stitch together as near of a  replica  as she could to replace the now  charred  original version of hers, and she had spent an  entire weekend  dying a wig that p.t. had plurged on to get it to its perfect shade of  bubblegum pink  .  it had taken an extra week just to get the  beet juice stains  off of her hands.
she was tucking her shirt into her long skirt when she heard some shuffling behind her, looking in the mirror and seeing  phillip  standing there.
â youâre supposed to be at home, in bed,  â  she scolded through a surprised exhale, turning to face him.   â  what are you doing here?  â
