Self-taught painter Yves Tanguy was born on this day in 1900, joined the Surrealist group in 1925, and rapidly developed a distinct style. In works such as “The Parallels,” Tanguy creates a landscape that is neither real nor fully artificial.

I bid you all a Surreal Good Night...
Paintings by Rene Magritte, Max Ernst, Joan Miro, Albert Gleizes, Paul Klee, and Yves Tanguy. The first and last image are by an unknown artist. The first version was used as the cover image of an album of 78RPM discs of Chopin, recorded and released by Vladimir Horowitz in 1945. The final image is simply my concept of what that scene might look like under some serious moonlight.
