since we know the tally5 password is part of a tumblr image url, this tells us a few more interesting things about it.
@aquariiium figured out the part of the url that is missing is a set 40 characters long no matter what, so we can assume the password is 40 characters long.
also! this part of the url is always in hexadecimal. that is, it contains numbers from 0-9, but only contains letters from a-f. the encoded message that appears to be related to tally5 is written with numbers 0-9 and letters a-z. so, either it’s a real message that can be translated to english, it’s some other clue, or if it does give the password somehow, it will have to be converted to hexadecimal as part of the decoding process.
it’s probably worth examining the weird number puzzle in the mv for a solution to the password, since hexadecimal is a number system and it makes a lot more sense to convert decimal numbers to hex than ascii letters to hex.
does this count as "grouping"?
