“Er... thank you,” Alec said, his voice almost-but-not-quite raising enough at the end of that sentence to make it into a question. He examined the tie- still in the box- wondering what on Earth about this brown-and-blue striped tie had made the blonde think of him. Really he couldn’t even remember the last time he’d worn a tie that wasn’t black, navy, or some deep grey. Did he even have a suit that it’d match? Not that he would say any of this out loud to Rose.

“No,” he agreed after a moment, his voice kept low and soft lest more emotions tumble out. He hated this. Not Rose and her long-suffering patience with him, obviously, but... well, everything else more or less. Sitting on the edge of her bed, he had a blanket wrapped around his shoulders. Though he’d slept most of the day (possibly the most sleep he’d gotten in years) once Rose’d gone off to work, he still felt and looked exhausted. He’d been glad to get off his chest some of what they’d talked through that morning... but once again he was struggling to find the right words. Centuries of keeping his deepest feelings and thoughts to himself would be a difficult habit to break- and one that he had to break if this was going to work.

IMMORTALITY WAS NO CURE FOR CLUMSINESS — so Merlin had come to terms with already centuries ago. 

      The strange metal device slipped ungracefully from his fingers, & a loud clang was heard over the room all of a sudden. Merlin grimaced, bending down swiftly to pick it up. 

Please don’t be broken, don’t be broken, don’t be bro —

   Not that he could not use his magic to piece it back together if it happened to disassemble. To those at Torchwood, magic was hardly the most surprising stuff they’d witnessed. To Merlin, too, magic seemed much more commonplace than say, time travel.  Everything at Torchwood was surprising & new, strange & exciting. 

Soft chords and scattered snatchings of conversation fill the air with the sort of ambience befitting of a public house. A frequent customer of such places, be they nestled in the heart of a rain-swept, sprawling city or tucked away in the remotest, snow covered reaches in a realm home to giants, the Odinson was content to weather all conditions without complaint, in exchange for the promise of a full tankard of mead, striking up conversation wherever he went.

On this occasion, his latest quest for a drink saw him tour familiar pastures, stopping by a tavern he believed to be popular with the local mortals that lived nearby. Thankfully, at the hour of his visit, the building was scarcely occupied, allowing the blond thunderer to take up a seat by the bar and make his request, though with some confusion on the barkeeper’s part. 

Content to sit and stay a while, the Odinson had let the hourly clock complete a few rotations of his minute hand before he thought to rouse himself and move on, belly sufficiently filled with a... lacklustre vintage of beer he had not asked for the name of, when it escaped him to pay attention to his surroundings, which resulted in a collision of sorts. Realising that as he rose to stand, he’d manage to bump against what he thought to be a fellow patron, Odinson immediately spun on heel, which was no small feat for a man of his statue, letting a gush of apologies flow forth from his mouth;

“Ah! Pardon me, kind stranger! I did not mean to collide with you.” Which was his polite way of seeking forgiveness for not having bowled her over with his careless turn in degrees. This blunder would serve to remind him to pay better attention to his surroundings. Still, perhaps whether due to the amount of alcohol in his system -- it was -- or rather he was simply feeling generous, the blond immediately made a show of clearing space, then used both arms to gesture to the stool he had previously vacated. 

            he  scratches  the  top  of  his  head  .        “  me  ?  why  would  i  do  that  ?  ”        he  quickly  turns  the  screen  off  before  rose  has  a  chance  to  see  it  .  the  doctor  should  know  better  than  to  try  &  trick  to  rose,  yet  here  he  is,  attempting  it  anyway  .  it  wasn’t  even  bad  !  he  just  wanted  to  order  rose  a  gift,  that’s  all,  &  he  was  checking  in  on  it,  because  things  have  a  way  of  getting  lost  on  their way  to  him  .        “  are  you  feeling  well  ?  maybe  you’re  SICK  .  ”

i have an age-old starter from you in my drafts which i have most certainly not forgotten about  (  i’m just a snail i’m so sorry  )  and i remember quite genuinely laughing out loud when she opened with “are you my uber?” like. crowley may not appreciate it but i absolutely do
