so they mention the "big three clans" in the latest modulo chapter and that basically proves what i have been saying all this time but nobody was talking about because no one cares about all the clan politics and they're too busy making canon ending worse than it already was. but whatever. me and gege like thissssπ€ fr !!!
i mean, there is the possibility that the big 3 of this era are not the same as the ones in jjk, but we know for a fact that the Gojo clan is still one of them, since Yuta was the prev clan head (side note: now that yuta has died, i wonder who it is? perhaps Yuka and Tsurugi'd dad who i assume is Yuta's son since they have the Okkotsu surname). however, i think it is unlikely that they would have changed tho, because Gege is not the type to go that in depth about world building and clan politics, and the mention of the big 3 feels more allusive to what we already know and which had been established in jjk, that is to say, not only is the Gojo clan still standing, but also the Kamo and even the Zenin.
bc technically, what was wiped out of the zenin clan were their fighting forces (the kukuru, the akashi, and the hei (and we don't even know if it was All of them)), and the kamo were never even close to being wiped out. even after kenjaku had killed a part of them and taken over as the head, the kamo were still standing as one of the big 3 bc they, along with the gojo clan, presented the request to the council that the zenin be removed from the big 3 clans. a proposal that was never made official btw. and if we see the timeline, noritoshi arrived back at the kamo compound 3 days after the shibuya incident, and by that time kenjaku has already completely taken over the kamo. the request for the removal of the zenin clan came later, since even maki going back to the zenin clan happened after kenjaku becoming the kamo clan head (mak returned to the zenin compound 9 days after the shibuya incident).
and after all the higher ups were killed, they of course would not have passed the verdict on excluding the Zenin from the big 3. so we can assume that since nothing was made official and none of the Zenin family who didn't want Megumi as the new clan head were around anymore, Megumi was the Zenin clan head.
and that's another thing that pissed me off when i saw people criticizing the fact that yuta became the new gojo clan head. they were talking about how that was all about how it was perpetuating the flawed system and that it was illogical that the gojo clan would still be around when the other 2 had been eradicated when that was nothing close to the truth. the kamo and zenin were still around, not to mention all the other smaller jujutsu sorcerer clans that exist and were just never named (which we know exist bc of the mention that the Inumaki clan is "one of" (most likely many more) the smaller sorcerer clans). and come on now, the fact that gojo was going to die and yuta would become the strongest was laid out from veryyyyyyy early on. ESPECIALLY because yuta was related to the gojo clan (same ancestor). that was kinda predictable. and i think there was too much romanticization of what Gojo's whole goal of "reshaping jujutsu society" was about, bc his plan was never actually about revolution or necessarily tearing down the system, but rather more about guiding and helping a new generation of jujutsu users who were stronger, and most importantly, strong enough that they would be able to do what they wanted and do what they thought was right without the hindrance of the higher ups and all the rules of the jujutsu system, much like him. and if there were enough strong sorcerers in positions of power, slowly the rules would be able to change. Gojo never had any plans of tearing down the clan system, since he directly benefited from it, and it is also telling that he never had any intentions of killing any higher ups until he himself was labeled a curse user (which is funny because it was due to his relationship with Getou that he was labeled as such, but that also was his opportunity to "catch up" to getou.)
and the same could be said about Maki: her (initial) goal wasn't to destroy the Zenin clan but to have them recognize her and become someone who could become the clan head. she was trying to act within the "system" which is why, even tho i have absolutely no goodwill towards yutamaki, i don't think her ending is necessarily out of character for her. it's never said that she quit being a sorcerer and became a stay at home wife/mother at any point, in fact, i feel like the opposite was implied since she was the one that trained Tsurugi and he talks about how he wants to be strong like her. meaning she prob continued being an active sorcerer still taking on missions and being involved in clan politics as a leader, which is exactly what her original goal was -> making a place for herself in these power structures.
(i still think she should have become the zenin clan head but we can't have everything we need to stay realistic bc this is WSJ we're talking about after all....)

On the Silver Globe is definitely hands down the best film i watched this year this is no joke. labelling it as just a "sci-fi" movie is a huge understatement, because it deals with themes of human nature, religious and socio-political power structures and how these relate to one another, and the idea of is it possible to start again; can we truly avoid not repeating history? even if it is unfinished, it is such a masterpiece of a film. yes, it can be difficult to watch especially due to its heavily philosophical nature and also the disturbing imagery present but i am not kidding i don't think there will ever be anything quite like it. i mean, of course i would love to see a remake that is able to complete it and has a better budget, but at the same time it just wouldn't be Ε»uΕawski's On the Silver Globe.
The Colour of Pomegranates is the most beautiful film you will ever watch it is like poetry brought to the screen. Also one of the best movies of all time
PΓ‘jaros de Verano (english title: Birds of Passage) is a movie about the cycle of violence not only within the family, but also how factors like social class struggles, the effects of European colonialism, and US imperialism affect a rural indigenous community in Colombia. not only is the story extremely well crafted, the cinematography is mind blowing too.
East Palace, West Palace was the first explicitly lgbt movie from mainland China, and while it is by no means perfect i feel like it is a very interesting take. already wrote a post that goes more in depth about it here
It feels a bit cringe to say so but To Wong Foo definitely became a comfort movie to me. very few things actually make me laugh out loud but this movie genuinely is funny. and same with east palace, it is definitely not perfect but it has such sincerity to it it never comes across as offensive. the joke here is never "haha men in dresses", instead the humour comes from other places and the subject is always treated with respect. like whateverrrr the narrative is a bit cheesy but who cares
he wanted that old man so badddddd!!!!! <- my main takeaway. i mean, the story is interesting and it has an interesting twist to the whole undercover cop mafia plot. but the queer subtext is also there and this time no i'm not being delusional the director confirmed it! he actually wanted that old man so bad!
I could draw parallels between Ran and Birds of Passage but also this is loosely based on Macbeth and well what can i say? i love tragedies and i love Kurosawa
Angel's Egg is similar to On the Silver Globe because it is extremely philosophical too and very tied to religion. "there can be no faith after Hiroshima" a lot of japanese art after WW2 deals with the atomic bomb and it's aftermath and this is a surreal and more artsy take on it. using a lot of religious imagery and allegories, this is not only a beautifully animated film, and with Yoshitaka Amano doing the character design giving everything an ethereal look, a weirdly eerie and foreboding feel is created
Not my favourite Wong Kar-Wai movie but it is definitely his magnum opus. very beautiful movie he has never made anything like it and never will. he truly peaked and that is the truth

Dogra Magra (1988): totally worth watching if you love being confused and not understanding anything going on and also it is free to watch on the Internet Archive
The Tragedy of Man (2011): might not be exaggerating when i say this is probably the best animated movie ever made Marcell Jankovics the genius of that man!
Skinamarink (2022): prob my favourite horror movie even though i wouldn't call it a horror movie in the conventional sense because it is very experimental but damn if it isn't good. if you want to feel scared def watch it by yourself in the dark in the middle of the night
Wings of Desire (1987): just like In the Mood for Love is Wong Kar-Wai's indisputable magnum opus, this is Wim Wenders best like woah. just. woah. there isn't really a way to sell this movie that actually does justice to it
Paris is Burning (1990): a must watch tbh i'm ashamed i hadn't watched it before. we have always been here and will always be here βπ³οΈβππ³οΈββ§οΈ
Amadeus (1984): yknow those movies that always get hyped up as movies every one needs to watch and then you watch them and it's like "it's okay ig?" well not in this case literally all the hype it gets is justified probably one of the best 3 hours of my life invested
Drive my Car (2021): insanely good movie. changes you on a spiritual level
Matthias and Maxime (2019): this film satisfied the cinephile in me and the homo dot png πββοΈ the yearning in this movie made me start shaking and throwing up π
License to Live (1998): what is the opposite of a feel-good movie? a feel-bad movie? because this one is a kms-movie. one of Kiyoshi Kurosawa's overlooked gems it's a movie that is so melancholic and heartbreaking it leaves you sitting alone in ur room staring at your screen long after the movie is over contemplating your whole life and what it means to be alive.
while a touch of fever (1993) wasn't exactly the best movie of its kind i do have to give it credit given that it was basically done with no budget. it still managed to capture a very subtle and unspoken emotion that i really like, and the contrast tatsuru and shin's characters have with each other is interesting. on one hand, tatsuru who is completely shut off from everyone and himself and doesn't admit his sexuality yet has no problem sleeping with clients, and shin who is open about being gay and what he wants but bc of that he has a harder time since what he wants is romance/intimacy and not a transactional thing. and yet, when tatsuru kisses him he decides to run away and denies being in love with him. which just goes to show that it isn't as simple as it would appear. both are scared of vulnerability but show it in different ways. and i think that's crazy and i love it
