Spoils from the Ren Faire the other weekend:
Sword
(for which I was charged double what it is worth on True Swords...XD It did not break the bank this time, so...meh)
It's a bit loose in the handle, so it's probably not surviving a battle with any real abuse... Still, the design is nice, so I love it! :3 (I own 5 swords now. Need more. XD)
Family Name History plus Family Crest Stuff: Taliaferro
So. My actual surname is Tolliver. However, before the family name was changed to "Tolliver," it was actually Taliaferro. (Tolliver is the same name just more anglican than Italian/British. Tagliaferro/Taliaferro is the Italianization of the French name Taillefer...but the reason I say "British" is because the family that first brought the name to the states came from London, at least in this instance).
I want to do more research, naturally, because this name history stuff has always been a bit fascinating to me, especially so since as an "African American I assume the name Taliaferro/Tolliver (and our other names like Hogg, Dennis, and so on) comes from slavery.
So, for me, there's far more story to the family name than just "where we came from" (since that's no real mystery), stuff that we might never know, and if there are actual ties to the London portion of this backstory, that would be very interesting to find out indeed! (Going to take A LOT of digging).
Taliaferro has some prestige to the name, so that's neat. Had fun reading this. ^_^
