every once in a while i think back to that scene where lottie asks tai if she was eating dirt and it's funny but also sets the ground for later things. my first time watching, i thought it would be the first moment of an arc where lottie and tai rlly build something together. tai is so against anything that could hint at mental unwellness and in turn is deeply unwilling to acknowledge those parts of herself. lottie, despite her developing the mindset that she is a vessel for the wilderness, also struggled w feeling wrong for her spirituality and mental illness. they couldve had a well thought out push-and-pull relationship (not necessarily romantic, just in general) abt acceptance and enablement and rejection bc the other is a reflection of yourself, but that would require the writers to put more thought into the racial dynamics and actually plan out all five seasons, so. you take what you can get, ig
