The road to our clay house in tagounite - four hours walk from the sahara desert. Tagounite is a town with one main street. I was constantly told not to walk alone as a woman. I got followed a few times when I did this and men would stare blatantly without shame. We had the water man come and fill up the water tank every month. We had no running taps, washing machines, sink or dishwasher. We did everything by hand, squatting on the ground and using buckets. A camel tied to a tree was our next door neighbour. I lived here for one and a half months. Pain in eyes and rough hard working hands were seen in all. Misogyny, desperation, longing for another life... But beauty also. silence in earth’s movements and elements. connection with land. immense gratitude for food, water and shelter. Magic and the universe’s song came to me there. A holy moment spoken through god’s tongue. I will never forget this sacred night. When i recall it to others they do not believe me, i feel as if they think i am spinning a fantastical yarn. but my eyes, heart, my soul. they all knew the mighty magic that was beckoning through. the music, the voices, the wind, the enchantment. she was speaking to me
